Gold isn't and won't be money as we know it now. In the extreme you speak of it will be bartered. There is unlikely to be a fixed 'gold rate of exchange'.
If I had physical gold I would be happy to keep it. I estimate that the true value of gold is about $50,000/ oz. I hope the governments can keep the wheels on the cart so we never see that.
As for "electronic gold" or certs . I wouldn't want to be holding that if gold went over $5000, it would be unlikely if your counterparty was still in business..
