Actually they've been hiring census workers, training them, putting them to work for a week, laying them off, and rehiring them for another week...and so on...

Each time they bring the employee back it counts as a "new job".

The May reading of the net change for Non-farm Payrolls is +431k
This was expected to be +536k.

The May reading of the net change for Private Sector Non-farm Payrolls is +41k
This was expected to be +180k.

The May reading of the Unemployment Rate is down two tenths to 9.7%
This was expected to be 9.8%, down one tenth from the month before.

The May reading of Average Hourly Wages is +0.3%
This was expected to be +0.1% on a month on month basis.

The May reading of the Average Work Week is up one tenth to 34.2 hours
This was expected to be steady at 34.1 hours.
