Its obvious that you have never traded the news....no worrries.. Well here it how it goes..You can never enter on the move as the move is usually in the split second. I never trade EU thats why I use hedging. If u have ever traded the ADP or NFP u would know that EU sux for trading. I always open USDJPY (UJ).... The move is usually instant even before the news is released. How would I know what direction it will take? I use a small number which I call deviation and add or substract from the expected number. U can call that a trigger. If the news.. for example ADP is positive and the trigger is hit UJ will usually move up. What if it starts to move down.?..By my experience the moves are usually instant sometimes by 50 or more pips INSTANTLY even before the news has been officially released. I HEDGE because the PA may move in the opposite direction. S/R level when news trading are negated. I usually go for a number of pips and in 30 minutes usually I spot a complete move..then it starts to retrace...I exit the position by taking profit and wait for retrace. I usually exit at 70 % of retrace and its a small loss since I have already cashed in the profit. News trading was extremely volatile in the past. Due to a global crisis its impact has been reduced...thats why I dont trade that often anymore. I remember trading NFP where I cashed 80 pips in 5 minutes on UJ pair.

I forgot to mention...sometimes there is no decent retrace and the move can be hazardous for trading if u dont hedge it. Spread is nothing compared to what news trading can give u.

Yeah.. that's my only problem with it.. It is (or they) are very selective in their application of said rules..

Of course, the smart ones can see through that as well..

Ah, so you've got my whole trading history summed up nicely, eh? I've been trading for 15 years and have witnessed plenty of news events. However, my question wasn't regarding trading the news, it was why you would hedge instantly. Taking simultaneous positions long and short is no different than being flat. I'm still not seeing the benefit, news or not.
