Geoff and all...

I started playing around with a couple of things and wanted everyone's thoughts...

Instead of leaving the offset to zero, I moved it to 2. In using IBFX, this would mean taking orders AFTER Tokyo opens. My reasoning is to make sure that Tokyo is "following" the trends.

For this week, I received 3 orders instead of one. All 3 were profitable.

My problem - for whatever reason, I can only back test for the past 90 days. I have not figured out why the limitation.

Attached are my orders for the week - If anyone could go back and backtest for the past year or so, that would be great.

Finally - tomorrow is a Holiday in the US. Geoff should we turn off the EA for holidays? I don't recall seeing an mention either way in the thread.

Keep up the good work - I appreciate your efforts.

Ok here is the Graph 6 month worth of testing V8 default settings

Offset 2 on IBFX live (doesn't look too good either)

Sky, this is the second time I have asked you, what is the spread for these tests?

Weekend spreads are usually much greater than during the week and the tester uses the current spread!

This is interesting, are you taking the trade during the first or second hour of the Tokyo session?

As far as the bank holiday is concerned I will leave my accounts running as normal as the strategy should still work
but I guess it is up to everyone to make their own decision!

hye..do you try this EA for backtest before use it in real trading?..i tried in strategy tester but no trade was open

If you'll check that Zip files for reports you going to find out that

Losses occurred on Mon, Tue and Wed IBFX don't trade on the weekends

Actually we might have to Enter some Global variable or just set

EA to trade only MON-THU (4 days a week), that way we can take

weekend spreads off the table.. Though I'm not sure how EA could

trade on weekends, if Markets are closed? IBFX Cable spread is

flat 4 pips 24/7.

You do not understand what I am saying Sky!

It is down to when you use the tester, if you use the tester at the weekend
the tester ues the weekend spread for the entire test, it does not use
the spread for each day of the test.

In the data that is stored for running back-tests the spread is not included.

So, tests run at the weekend are not valid, you must run the tester during market hours!

I believe I did testing off weekends ones.. But right now

GBPUSD showing 3 pips (end up on 3 pips) on IBFX live (1.4457 1.4460)

right now, so I'm guessing tester should take that value.

OK, in that case the tester should use 3 spread.

What I can say is that Alpari UK has spread of 8 today and if I run the tester
today I will get exactly the same graph that you are getting but when I run
the tester tomorrow when the spread will be < 2 I will get the graph that
I normally get.

I would prefer to wait till tomorrow before coming to any conclusion!

Hey Geoff,

Now I am really confused.
In your reply to my noob question (http://www.forexfactory.com/showpost...postcount=3540), you explained that the spread that the EA sees is the 'actual' spread from the broker when it took place.

So for example, if spread = 4 pips on the 18.00 2nd July 2010 on IBFX and if I do a backtest on 2nd of August 2010 (which let's assume is a weekend) covering 2mths historical data, what would be the spread seen by EA on 18.00 2nd July 2010? Isn't is still 4 pips as you explained in your earlier reply above?

Now you are asking about spread, before you were asking about the Ask price!

The weekend back test problem is simply that spreads are unusually high on the weekend. My G/U spread is normally 2p during the week but right now is 7p, 5p to 10p is normal for off days. Since the back test takes the spread at the time of innitation for the full run, the results will be skewed 3p to 7p, could be for the good or the bad but not very accurate.

Being a US bank holiday coming up is it wise to run the EA later today and tomorrow. Will it have that much bearing

In back testing the EA takes no account of bank holidays so I see no
reason to turn it off or trade later, I expect the results to be the same!

Of course, I could be wrong!

It seems that some alignment of term understanding is necessary here .
When I asked about the ASK price. it was very much linked to spread since ASK price = BID price + spread.
So I had thought when you replied that "The closing price in your example is the real Ask price at that time." , it means the ASK price was equal to BID price PLUS SPREAD and therefore if the closing price in my example is the real ASK price at that time. it follows that the spread at that time IS the spread of IBFX at that time.
This puzzles me when you said the spread DEPENDS on when BACKTESTING is done.
Moreover, I can switch off my internet connection (not connected to broker) and still do my backtest. How does that make time of backtesting important?
Geoff, do I make sense?

A little time spent doing your own research would save a lot of these questions,
the answers are all available to you by doing a search on FF or even on Google.

If someone asks a question that I can't answer then I do a search, I don't
know everything!

If you switch off the internet then the tester uses the latest "spread" data that it has saved and
the price data it uses from its database.
