Why is this pair called loonie ? Is it because its behaviour is "looney" ? It doesn't seem to have any correlation with other pairs. Seems to have a mind of its own. Anybody have success in trading this pair? Care to share?

The Canadian dollar coin is called the Loonie because, well- it has a loon on it.

the gab from last week he didn't cover it yet , buy from 240 is better with stop at 200 , targeting 420 .

What TF are you guys shorting? What's your analysis for shorting? Technical or Fundamentals? Some of the recent CAD economic news is not very positive. Am I missing something?

While waiting for my USDJPY to budge, I bought this USDCAD pair for no reason @ 1.0235. Lucky it went up! TP @ 1.0335! Phew ! Very lucky !

Taking a long at 1.0235 was not lucky. It was on the charts. Glad it work out, but I hope you had a proper SL in place...just in case.

CAD is called loonie because the Canadian dollar has the image of a common loon which is a Canadian water bird, for those who don't know what a loon is - which is probably a lot of people.

If anyone here follows the James16 thread, there USD/CAD was mentioned on Thursday as a bullish pin bar formed.
Several traders jumped on board, using the standard James16 method that would be 10 pips above the close of the Thursday candle which on my GMT set up was at 1.0237.

There is a S+R around 1.0355 which is where price faltered on Friday.
Price is currently sitting at this line.

Economic data out last week was not as good as had been expected for Canada and oil is weak, which hurts CAD with all the oil sands needing a high price for oil to remain economic.

The next significant S+R to the long side is at 1.0750 and as was quite rightly pointed out the gap from the weekend of 9th May has not been closed yet.

lucky i cannot hold my curious feeling and i open 2 long transaction. and got 150 pips profit.
@duce : why CAD so reactive with oil price? is there any basic relationship between this two prices?

yeri, low demand in oil (globally) means slow economic growth. we have oil and oil sands, which can only be exploited with a high CAD, otherwise, not cost feasable. But compouding low oil are some bad numbers coming out of Canada. And the latest news/rumors is a possible housing bubble. Not bubble in Toronto or Vancouver yet, but the rest of the country is starting to worry about it. Once the interest rates go up...pop goes the housing. That's the two-edge sword the government and BoC are playing with.

from yesterday USD/CAD is bounce back to 1.0320 and i plan to make another long, still watching some news before make the transaction. anyway i think this pair still bullish. since its allready touch the lowest level at 0.9930 last april and i think this pair will move to a more normal level while the US shows a good economic number, and the EUR is free falling, i hope to see a more good economis number of US.

hopefully, just prepare enough bullet if this pair move against our position. well the worst condition is if this pair goes back to 0.9930, so make sure there is no margin call if this pair back to that level, and we can put another long transaction if this pair moves down.
