anyway i think fundamentally your analysis is spot on! just right now, mafias are running the market. i guess they're placed in to stop a full rout from happening, which if happens will affect everyone, everyone prefers a gradual curve compared to a suicide jump. it allows the market to adapt better to pricings and trade to continue. just my guess.

isnt this what the mericans call the plunge protection thing?

This wasn't done for the benefit of Europe, but for the US itself.

US may write cheques, but with money borrowed from somewhere else. So who is really paying?

May one also infer that the Fed saw E/U print 1.25xx and said, "that's low enough"....?

Now, one of you traders let me know if you can - how are the swap facilities alluded to any different than the hundreds of swap facilities that the Fed maintains - as standard operating procedure as the world's banker - with other countries & CB's all over the globe?

The Euro is facing a huge crisis in confidence and altho it's great to see the 962bln package to help EU countries but I think the markets will soon test their resolve. 962 bln is great but with more countries paying higher bond yields for the foreseeable future (years) coupled with a slow global econ environment is it enough? I don't think we know how deep some countries may be --take Greece's creative accounting into consideration.

There will surely be intervention in the Euro but will it be effective in supporting it or just increasing volatility and adding to the mayhem. My view is intervention will add to volatility and may not have as supportive effect a initially thought.. Hang on tight this carnival ride is going to shake us like a rag doll..

misdirection? i don't fall for it.
the point is U.S would have stock piles of usd. if not for subsidizing the defense of other governments. If those governments paid for their own they would be in even worse shape. They are not paying for one the most expensive parts of being a government. We in u.s. are, but for others also. the same ones we are bailing out tonight. Take off the training wheels then tell how much U.S. is in debt.

U.S. is not gonna let them go back to 1.6 or even 1.4.. the oil at 147 still has not been paid for. and as shown a 87 we cant handle it yet. U.S. is just letting a slow drop to prevent a future war.

I don't recall hearing about Uncle Sam having his arm twisted to maintain a worldwide military empire. Sam is still living in the 50's man - somebody needs to wake his ass up & let him know the Cold War is over. Ron Paul? Yeah right...

The bigger the definition of spec and the more the market benefits from the liquidity. They all like to blame any decline on "speculation" but in reality, it is the market mechanism- what bank or large trader would hold euros in any decline like we've seen recently?
