what's wrong with raising rates? The cost of borrowing should be higher. The current low rates have helped the bankers get out of bad positions. The low rates have nothing to do with helping out the average citizen. Once the banks are repositioned, the rates will go up. Is that now or soon? i have no clue. But when they do go up, the average citizen will get squeezed something fierce.
They are so afraid of getting a Japan situation that they will leave rates as low as they can for as long as they can. There is still plenty of slack in the economy to swallow up any inflation pressures... not to mention they have a boat load of assets they can sell instead of hiking.

Well - I don't think it is a good deal and good for business to let the German People pay the wellfare for Greece, Spain or Portugal.

And if they (Eseltreiber) do even have a Highway now or not - I don't care.

I have doubts that even a 'wellfare' of 135 Billion Euros will help Greece.

Aus verdorbener Milch wird nicht plötzlich über Nacht "Schlagsahne" (ich könnte es auch volkstümlicher sagen, tue das aber nicht) nur wenn man mal 135 Gramm Zucker drauf gibt. Weg mit dem "Ramsch" da. Das ist gesünder für den guten Bestand und das gute Vertrauen.

At least they will cost us much much much more than 135 Billion Euros. That is only the price they tell to the public now. It is all massive filtred - as there are 'many other goals' to be achieved with that - as Mr Hatch mentioned already. There are much more political and historical reasons behind that.

I know that - because I know some (Ulstein Verlag berühmter Historiker) - who was at that top secret meeting in 1989 when the EURO was concluded in Potsdam.

But this is not the place to discuss that. Sorry for that.


And our business (forex I mean) is not getting better as well then - as we have to pay furthermore taxes on our business for that reason in future days. So no reason to be too much exited about that. Kein Grund zur Freude. Und Urlaub mache ich da auch nicht. Ist gar nicht schön da. Ich fahre lieber an die Cote Azur. Alles zwischen San Remo und Nizza oder Cannes ist ganz nett und ok.

I agree that the US debt is astronomical, but I don't necessarily believe that it is only on the backs of Americans. It is a number on a piece of paper. It is not food that we need to survive or water that we need to drink or clean air that we need to breath. The US has lots of that. Does the EZ or the rest of the world have that? Not really. I'd rather be in debt than dead.

Hi Guys, back from a damn trip to the south of the country, just got back now. What's the news? A new low I see. I still need to recover 40 pips from my stupid long of yesterday. I also see that my SL was hit and 8 pips later the damn PA went up and reached my TP @ 1.3240 (!!) Unlucky bastard!

Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in January suggests that economic activity has continued to strengthen and that the labor market is stabilizing. Household spending is expanding at a moderate rate but remains constrained by high unemployment, modest income growth, lower housing wealth, and tight credit. Business spending on equipment and software has risen significantly. However, investment in nonresidential structures is declining, housing starts have been flat at a depressed level, and employers remain reluctant to add to payrolls. While bank lending continues to contract, financial market conditions remain supportive of economic growth. Although the pace of economic recovery is likely to be moderate for a time, the Committee anticipates a gradual return to higher levels of resource utilization in a context of price stability.
With substantial resource slack continuing to restrain cost pressures and longer-term inflation expectations stable, inflation is likely to be subdued for some time.
The Committee will maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 0 to 1/4 percent and continues to anticipate that economic conditions, including low rates of resource utilization, subdued inflation trends, and stable inflation expectations, are likely to warrant exceptionally low levels of the federal funds rate for an extended period. To provide support to mortgage lending and housing markets and to improve overall conditions in private credit markets, the Federal Reserve has been purchasing $1.25 trillion of agency mortgage-backed securities and about $175 billion of agency debt; those purchases are nearing completion, and the remaining transactions will be executed by the end of this month. The Committee will continue to monitor the economic outlook and financial developments and will employ its policy tools as necessary to promote economic recovery and price stability.
In light of improved functioning of financial markets, the Federal Reserve has been closing the special liquidity facilities that it created to support markets during the crisis. The only remaining such program, the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility, is scheduled to close on June 30 for loans backed by new-issue commercial mortgage-backed securities and on March 31 for loans backed by all other types of collateral."

You're talking about an economic entity equal in size to the USA. It's not some desertified shit hole.
