check every time frame

the 4 hour has been looking like an engulfing set up for last 2 hours.

longs were risky , although could use tight stops loss if going long off yesterdays lows 1.4129

Well, my position is more complex. I'm currently in a "mixed portfolio".
Long EURUSD 4147 (currently -5 pips)
Long GBPUSD 1.6130 (currently +50 pips)

in these cases my unique stop is the value of my portfolio, when it gets close to zero.
A position helps to hold the other.

But if you're flat, a buy at 4130 might be interesting, with a small SL
The best thing that can happen to you is to find out where you're wrong.

Right. I evaluate it would make usd down.
So, I still keep 1 trade on 1.4100 from last Friday. And just open 1 more trade on 1.4140. Crazy market!!

dont long just because of the news .. trust me this always doesnt work , the market hasnt been affected by this as much as the greece i would sit this one out than make a risky bet , maybe you win idk

malcolm, on EU 1h, just after the big candle (and increasing vol) there is a down candle...in your opinion was it a valid "no result after effort" ?

You're right, I'm using .5$/pip, meaning a 10pip-SL equals 0.5% loss.
Usually I'm setting up my TP to 20pips, and accordingly SL to 10 pips.

I am still in the very beginning of learning what it takes to evaluate situations, and as malcomb14 states, in risky situation I clearly overlook to first check every timeframe. But reminders like this are very valuable to me.

I started live-trading on January 12th and would rather like to trade a clear trend in order to collect positive pips, but this consolidation teaches a lot more than a trend.

Attempted bear continuation but apparently failed with 3 bottoms & long at 1.4136 again to see new top if no contraindication with fundamentals doing so.and this action is certainly seems risky so will watch 1.4162 & 88 level in break & sl at profit level always.

Better home sales was one of the reasons of USD getting stronger!! THis is out of the table now.. so guys don't hesitate to go long at this point of time..
