Continue finishing testing some related systems based on EscalatorToPips. (But no journal any more).


After that probably doing some completely other systems (A unfinished trend following I started before looking into Spud's thread - maybe some kind of basket trading.)

hurmmm been a while till i can write again... been so bz with day work n so tired when at home, dont really feel like want to stare at the monitor... btw i'm trying to finalize an EA based on the Spud's %R. i use 40%R and also lower TF filter as entry point. it seems to be working in D1 TF but not in lower TF. i guess now i need to work on the SL. i did a backtest from 01.01.2009, there's 1 trade got 500+pips! (not mentioning also some lost up to 200+pips )

but as i'm still very new here, would like to seek advice, how far the backtest should start? also it would be great if can advice on the SL as i would like to code it and not to put in my order (dont want the broker to know, hehe!!)

I personaly tested a lot of EA's. Some delivering interesting results (but only working either in trends or ranging markets), some completely choppy just as the market can be, some loosing a lot. I would advise you to make a working EA on lower TF than D1 just because the EA will not trade much and without much trades you don't have enough trades to be sure your EA is working. And, according to me, once you've got a good strategy, it should work on the main TF, from M15 to D1.

ABout SL, I would use a limited SL (20 to 35 pips, if it's more it's because the entry is not accurate enough), trailing should be higher to give some room to the trade and be sure to make money even if your strategy is a 50% winner, ... the best is to use a dynamic stop (MA, ADX, ...).

To be completely honest, I believe in EA's to facilitate your life but not to be 100% automatic as I said above, your EA will not perform the same in all the market conditions and the human intelligence is difficult to put in an EA, but that's only my personal view!

I forgot to mention that yu should add a BE in your EA, not to far from your entry point. TO be finetuned according to your strategy.

Hi PipPicker, sorry I did not see your message.

I would suggest to open a trade only when the ADX signal is climbing and above let's say 25. ADX+ should of course be above ADX-. And the MTF STOS should be climbing for a buy/declining for a sell. The ADX signal will allow you to trade only when the trend is effective (the trend is your friend). If ADX is below 25, no trade or range trading only (using RSI or STOS or Bollinger...).
I also like to have the moving averages properly aligned and not in spaghetti. You can also use the MTF STOS patterns to better feel what's happening and confirm with ADX.

I'm still in the process of analysing ADX in combination with MTF STOS. I'm convinced in can clearly help in your trade decisions. I'm using it for 3 weeks now on my real account and I perform much better than without using it.

Hello Spudfyre.

As a newbie I have a question. I think I understand your system, but 1 part I cannot seem to grasp.
In post #108 you state (page 12 about the balls) : "We know that H4 and H1 are moving down and for them to continue moving down M30, M15 and M5 must move up."
I cannot seem to let go that M15 and M30 also can stay down and pull H1 and H4 down.
Could you explain this to me. I'll be very thankful.

It's quite a long time since I logged in forexfactory.

Since my last info on my journal and here:

I still traded the MTF Stoch system. Still in Plus.

In August I had a few STOP LOSS one after another which took some of the profit and I stopped trading for a while.

Basically I'm up about 20 % for this year ( some of it was done by manual trading and other systems on this accounts before using MTF Stochs. )

As this was my target for this First Year with MTF Stochs I decided to stop trading till year end and keep my profit.

On the Testing side:

I did some more testing on something more based on the Escalator To PIPs idea - but stopped after some time (when the summer time came) and took a break in testing.

In October I rewrote a lot of my MTF automatic trading system.
Which I basically just finished.

I hope now to test it out till year end ( fixing new bugs) and hope to be ready for next year start to go live with it.


For next year I will basically switch to only Trading MTF-Stochs systems and maybe some manual. I think aiming between 50 - 150 % might be quite realistic.

One of the major problems I still have with my present system is that I get just few trades: about 1-3 a week by trading 22 pairs.

So till year I will try slightly different settings to increase that but hoping to keep the win-loss ration.

Hi,

I was not 100% comfortable to trade Spud's MTF STOCH technique but I loved the idea. I tried to use the same mechanics using the MACD on Multiple Time Frames and with multiple averages settings.

The result is that you can easily see where the trend is going to (bullish/bearish) and enter on the TF you like.

I'm planning to try an automation of the technique and will come back here with the results if they are interesting. But the method is generating more trades than what you're saying, maybe a good alternative. Over the holiday break I have been reading up on this MTF Stoch 'mechanical' method. Definitely something worth investigating/testing further. As with any system it is very important to plan your trade and trade your plan consistently.

Anyone else still actively trading this system (given the age of the thread)?

Yes - still trading Spud's related Live system and also demo testing for improvement.

There are some others who are also trading related systems.

Probably there is not much forum activity anymore - because most related interesting things have been already written.
