Been playing with a demo account with micro (0.01) lots and watched the euro all day. A trade of mine is currently at 230 pips gained as a result of the spike. I had some other long trades that profited as well but I'm still new so I've been playing around with various S/L, T/P, etc.

you can buy gold at any price to exchange purchasing power to intrinsic value. it should not even worry you if the price in usd drops, which btw. lost 93% purchasing power since inception. XA/S&P and not XA/U is the way to go.

it is just converting papermoney to something that keeps value when they need the fiatmoney to wipe asses, since toiletpaper production has gotten insolvent.
