Yeah, there was economic news affecting EUR at 09.00am GMT.

The problem is that there are several correlated pairs in the JPY basket.

So, bad news affecting EUR will affect GBP and AUD as they are correlated.

Is´n it news that affect some of the currences nearly 24/5?

why NZD was stripped of the indicator? What we trade is JPY, not USD, EUR, CAD, etc. NZD was used to measure JPY strengh like any other. The fact we don't trade it, doesn't alter the fact that if JPY is weaker against NZD, it is weaker against all other pairs we trade.

i can't see the point of remove of the calculation pairs we don't have in our brokers. If i got it wrong i apologize.

and sorry for my bad English.

Hehe. Frankly, I can't remember why. I do know it is a bugger to trade and the spreads tend to be criminal.

Anyhow, the answer is in the thread somewhere, so do a search on NZD to find it.

Hi Scoobs,

thanks for that. I was thinking something along the same lines but a bit more sophisticated:

Instead of just turning off the whole basket when there is news coming in any of the pairs, do the following:

Check each pair if there is news pending for it, and if this is the case, exclude it from the basket, instead of just standing by and not opening a basket. We also need to count how many pairs are left in the basket after the news filtering for all pairs, and if they are too few, perhaps don't open the basket.

Also, if we implement this, I believe we would need a modified version of the indicator, tracking only the pairs left in the basket after the news filtering. The reason being that if we leave the news affected pairs in the indicator, they can throw it's value off quite a bit, in a direction that doesn't represent the move of our basket currencies.

An example of the use of the above is last night. Only AUDJPY was not behaving itself, the rest of the basket went on it's own merry way. If we were to just turn off the entire basket for 1 pair incoming news, it means we lost a trading opportunity.

Why would you care if the JPY is getting stronger or weaker about a pair you are not trading? how are you going to make or lose money out of that?

If an extreme event happens like last night with Australia reports, AUDJPY will move a lot because AUD changes in value, not because JPY changes in value... and since we are not trading the news dependent pair, we don't really care. We want to measure JPY strength against the basket of currencies we are trading, not AUD strength which we are not trading (talking about last nights example under the condition that we would have excluded AUDJPY from the basket due to incoming news)...

I hope this makes it clear.

trading JPY using the information that it is weaker or strong relative to this and another currencies.

last night, when extreme event happened in Australia, did you turn the indicator off ignoring JPY strengh against all other pairs?

Same here - buy baskets at 7.46 FXDD and e-global. DD quite big.

But no sell basket at the night on both.

You do have to understand though that normally the pairs will follow each other due too correlation. I understand they didnt in the example you gave but I would suggest that is not normally the norm.

This is an example where correlation broke down for some reason, which would be very difficult to build into the logic of the EA as it was the type of economic news which allowed this too happen.

But, I guess your suggestion is one for Steve to think about. The danger here is that we end up building an entirely different Robot based on the original trading method.
