Generally speaking. But I think alot of people have trouble figuring out when a profit run is over....it's too easy for them from a psychological perspective to talk themselves in to thinking that the market is going to turn back their way. Alot of people overreach when it comes to looking for profit...when they would have been better served by paying attention to the price action, sticking their profit in their pockets, and then compounding their results the next day.

That's your strategy, and that's good. There isn't a 'one size fit's all' strategy though. It depends on the size of the account and the length of time the trade is calculated over.

Ummm... i almost agreed with everything you said but ....NAH...long term trading all the way. Traders need to learn how to identify two things
1) Trading your plan
2) Trend reversal

Really simple actually. LOL

long at 1.4921 from this morning. The resistance is too obvious to work and the uptrend is also obviously strong. Stop about 50 pips away, target for a pop above 1.5.

I'm looking at the E/U daily chart and it has been trending up since a 1.24xx low on March 2, 2009. On the 3-hr chart, there has been a clear uptrend since the 10/02 low of 1.4481. On the H1 chart, clear uptrend is evident from 10/12 low of 1.4682.

How will you know when a clear trend reversal has occurred & how will you trade that?

I have nothing to indicate a reversal {short} until 1.59xx is tested. 1.53xx will offer resistance.

look at the currency pairs before the global recession, that is a good indicator where things are going.

eur/gbp worth a look.. long till 9800..do you own analysis..i see a trend line that 150 pip sl should protect. but 9317 may protect it also just 30 pips below daily pp.. ive been long since posted last week..its a boring pair and 2X the risk/gain pip size. if your looking for 400 plus pips

cut ur losses = before they turn to profits
let ur winner run = until they turn into losers

Welcome to the world of Paradox.

It all depends how one defines a profitable and a losing trade. A profitable trade is the one that gives predetermined profit on hitting TP, and a losing trade is the one that gives you predetermined loss on hitting SL. The only thing in between is Paradox, fear, greed, indecision, lack of confidence, confusion, .................etc.

I am sure Realjumber as a skydiver will tell you to thoroughly check your equipment before jumping out and then enjoy a fearless dive.

Used to be alot more boring, rangetrader's friend. Now, with the Pound in the dustbin with the Dollar, sky's the limit.

At the rate we're going you'll be able to buy a house or a beamer with the same roll pretty soon....I'll take the double-wide.

i mean euro 1.60. dollar at 72-73, etc. Now I'm not saying this for every pair.

not every pair will follow the past trend. the aussie moves strongly with gold. So I expect that to be different since gold is up. New Japan administration so I don't expect usd/jpy 120. etc...
