I know this is a strange question to ask on a forex forum, but has anybody had any experience of using this method on equities on a daily timeframe?

I have been experimenting for a few months and not had much success. So I have to ask myself, does this not work on equities for some reason and I should give up? Or maybe I am not applying the method correctly (I think I am) and need to review the setups I am taking? Or maybe the current market conditions are not right and I need to persevere?

Any thoughts?

I trade inside bars on the daily and I trade breaks of weekly inside bars too. It works well on FX and commodities.
When I backtested this method it was a disaster on the indices, 1hr IB's got topped and tailed all the time. I did not try on individual stocks because I rarely trade them.
I think FX being so much more liquid and so many more players means it is less prone to manipulation.

I found that trading IB's worked on a smaller TF (15 mins or lower) trading Uk equities, but the liquidity dried up so thats why i stopped.

I think the reason the 1hr doesn't work so well is that the equity markets are only open 8hrs so there is more of a rush to get business done so it'll rarely stay the same for 2 hrs...just my idea.

Also if trying it in stocks wait for ones that are trending not in a channel as there may be lots of IB's that break by only a point or two....always plenty of trending stocks out there.

Thanks for the replies. I agree with the trading stocks in a trend idea, I scan for stocks that are up/down on the month but I get the most confidence in setups where the stock has been in a trend for a few months. I guess I feel more comfortable because I think if the stock has been heading south/north this long whats another few days. Still hasn't got me very far yet though.

Due to my working hours and internet policy (I work in back office at a bank funnily enough) daily tf is my only option unfortunately.

I trade (well...paper trade) US stocks, but am based in the UK.

Dailys are NEVER an unfortunate part. If you see candles/bars as information then daily candles provide you with alot. Tie in with S/R levels and Fibs/Pivots, daily PA can yield you much longer trades with somewhat less stress. Look for key reversal points on a daily and if they appear near weekly S/R then buckle you seat.

I personally believe you will make more money trading longer TFs than smaller TFs with much less stress. Hourly is about the minimum (although I am no saint and have dabbled in, 15 M charts) but they can be used to confirm touches at/around areas of S/R and therefore potentially get you in a trade earlier.

I suppose I see it as unfortunate because if you are trading a few Fx pairs on the daily tf good setups are few and far between.

When I was trying out the pin bars at support/resistance level with fibs etc on daily fx bars I would wait a week for a setup only for it not to work out a lot of the time, which is why I am looking at equities.

The other reason, and I know this is going to sound silly, is that because of the hours I work staying up till 12:00 for the daily fx bars complete really kills me.

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Although i have been following this incredible method for 6 months i have never write in this forum. From my experience in using the dibs method i found it to be very simple and yet successful. I found it easier to enter based on the IB formed especially early in UK session. The challenge is how to let the free ride run. Currently i am more of a day trading which i do not prefer to let any open position overnight. I am also hesitate to let any open position from early UK session to run at the beginning of US session. I feel that i can improve further on my trading strategy. From the first post PC mentioned about using trailing stop such as Moving Average. Anyone can help me on how to use this trailing stop method or any other method that is good.

I don't know whether DIBS works on equities and I doubt it does because so much of the movement for a day occurs in the first hour.

You should look at similar ideas like opening range break-outs. Tony Crabel first popularised it (I think), Mark Fisher describes a similar method which he calls ACD.

The opening range is typically based on either time or volatility and a break of the range is an indication of trend in the direction of the break.

find some robust method for trailing your longer term positions, that you can live with for a
very long time! Some use moving averages, some "turtle-type" stops, others use trendline stops
on daily and weekly charts."

"Many possible trailing stop ideas could be used. “Turtle” stops, parabolic stops, trendline stops, the choices are myriad.
One trailing stop that many mechanical trading systems have used effectively for years is exiting on the first close below a simple 20 period moving average, for a long trade. (Or exiting on the first close above the 20 period average for a short trade.)"

I want to say something... I may be wrong, but I think that the power of this method is in the simple of trading and understanding... Not something very complex... The pros have not time for very coplex systems... They need time for trading!
