title insurance is like car insurance except we insure the title against real property (Real Estate) against liens, encumbrances and prior ownership battles. If you buy real property in the States, you'd be a fool not to obtain a title insurance policy. Here's some crazy history for you. Abraham Lincoln's family lost their home TWICE because of prior ownership issues. If his family would of had title insurance, their policy would of covered the claim and they wouldn't of needed to relinquish the property. Just a little trivia!
