Here is the lesson of NFP as I see it funnymentally ...
There are people starting to believe that the rally/recovery underway might actually be real and continuing. If that is so then all the money that the US has printed is very inflationary. Hence strong downward pressure on the USD and the strong upward pressure on commodities priced in USD.
While this lasts I am very bullish commodities (especially gold, silver, oil etc) and commodity currencies (CAD, AUD, NZD).
Rising indices are bearish for the yen too.

Oil shooting star did not trigger and it still is really bullish to me ... I'm sure because although I had a really pretty candle it was not really a level. $60 is my next level and my short finger will be twitching.

My other favourite GBPJPY ... a doji followed by an IB says we might have something to look forward to once the moves stop being driven by the USD.

I'm going to do chart analysis tomorrow and take the rest of the day off.

Sorry, Stuart, but you are 100% wrong! Not retired (could never retire, too much physical and mental energy), a big mortgage, no pension, most of the capital has gone in paying off debts including back money plus penalties owed the IRS, inadequate health insurance (not free like in the UK).

Try having a wife who has suddenly developed a mysterious illness where treatment is not included in the health insurance and the medical profession so far don't know what the problem is. The stress over your loved one of 45 years is far greater than any stress that trading could create!

This was posted on J16 and would not have bothered me one iota except it is written by a person with a hidden agenda.

The "style" content does not worry me at all, in fact it proves my style is working. I don't want kiss ass, nicey nicey, tell me when and where to sell and exit whimps on my thread - I only want REAL people who genuinely want to LEARN how to trade rather than those who just want trades and signals. We are NOT teaching exactly J16 stuff! Why would we? What would be the point? We are only using J16 as the best place to learn basic PASR. Once learned and understood, we move into my methods, Baba G methods, Blackeagle methods and Swami methods BUT it takes time and lots and lots of practice.

As I showed in my EURJPY trade breakdown, my favourite method is trend trading. I do not get any enjoyment or satisfaction in taking a trade and getting out at the first S&R for 50 pips or so which is taught on J16. It's too much hard work for me and more important, my psyche does not allow me to trade huge $/pip as Jim and Jacko do. Instead, I try to get in a trend and then, being rich in profit, use that profit to compound and LOAD up on contracts. This is the goal of what I am teaching but I was saving it for advanced students who have at least 3 years of consistent equity growth.

Now if this person HAD listened to his teachers, he would have heard Jim and Mike say that they are teaching the basics and it is up to the student to develop his OWN method and style so again, how can we be ""basically teaching exactly what is taught here"?

As I have said several times, I have no ego nor do I want one and I am NOT in competition with ANYONE. My sole purpose of being here is to give back and try and help those who are in the position I was.

Following on from Blackeagle's excellent post on EURAUD, I was going to post another of my trending trades but try to add detail as Blackeagle did. I decided against it because it really can only be done by experienced traders and not those in learning mode because in certain phases, I go against rules and convention in my methods.

I then decided to stoop to the level of this person and get out my notes and write up, on my EURGBP 2008 trade; my best ever, never repeated so far, trade, but then I came back to my senses and thought better of it as it is only for advanced students

I can't believe I've wasted my Saturday morning responding to this tripe!

Looks toppy and I'm inclined to point to short order below IB at 9815 just below the clustered 20/50 daily MAs. Be careful, there is previous support at 97.80 and the TL is not far away at 97.50ish.

GBPYEN - Looks like the M downtrend is still intact. But, immediate momentum is UP.Weekly rally has all the hallmarks of a bearflag. High of S/Star back in 5 Apr week still not violated either and on dly chart looks like a double top with a shooting star back on 6 Apr and Thurs gravestone Doji candle. Short orders below 147.88 with target of 141.00 and then 136.00.
On my data there is NO PA at the key level of 150.60 to trigger ANY trade!

Cable - M downtrend still intact as well as small weekly rally still intact. But, immediate momentum is UP My daily feed shows a DBLHC but if gbpyen sinks this could follow. Not sure on cable really. Still looks bullish. A BUEB on my data.

EURGBP - Monthly up trend still intact. Weekly shows a Hammer after recent weekly falls off 3 key SR levels and ascending TL combined with Fib from weekly L to H. would like to see a move above .8985 level and wkly 20 MA before considering a long. A Bond hammer on my data and doesn't get my attention. Built and confirmed support at psycho 0.8800. We need to break psycho 0.9100 before going long

AUDUSD - All 3 TFs lead me to bullish. Concern is the precipitous slope of the recent daily rally. Looks like a final blow off with PA caught under descending Monthly 20ema. Would expect to see a pullback to the 7460 sr level but overall still bullish. Yes, don't touch until we get PASR

USDCAD - Both M and W charts are still bearish but we could see a bounce off the M 20ema and 38% Fib level. Wait for a DBLHC but overall you wouldn't go against this strong downtrend until PA confirmation of a bottom. Don't stand in front of the Southbound express

USDCHF - M still in a down trend and W in up rally NO - IN STRONG DWNTREND!. PA sitting on top of the ascending TL from the lows so wait to see how PA reacts to this TL. Overall still bearish but if the indices tank then expect this pair to rally off that TL maybe? Depends on the flight to safety and whether people prefer the swissy over the greenback. Could be a good fade of the break of the 1.1250 level for the risky trader - not one for me tho! This lady broke magic psycho 1.1200 with a vengeance! Need PASR to get us into this on the way to 1.0700

EURCAD - Interesting level and PA. M and W uptrend still intact. The W chart shows a hammer off the ascending TL and 1.5441 SR zone and M 20ema. Only concern is that hammer body is not contained within the body of the previous candle. Long orders in above 1.5790, stops at base of weekly hammer. (1.5440) M looks good, W looks horrible and D, no better. Don't be in such a rush - WAIT for price to come to you - WAIT for PASR which may be at a better price

CADCHF - M still in down trend. Weekly shows a S/Star off the fib and SR level at .9680 zone and W 50ma. This would tally with above analysis and points toward general CAD weakness next week. Are the clues in oil and gold and other commodities. If so then the AUD steep rise on the dailies could be under threat too. Short orders below .9595 stops at .9780. Don't follow - too exotic for me

NZDUSD - Monthly LT uptrend still live - Weekly recent rally still intact but PA at key level of .6047 zone combined with 50% fib level from M low to high. This level has held 4 times on the M chart, so expect some PA here. Again a high yielding currency that may have been funding the indices rally - the DJ and FTSE may point to this key level again being rejected and for this pair to tank. M,W & D ALL bullish and you are thinking tanking?

Good luck with the correlation stuff - I tried it and it eventually did my head in - I stay with what I know and understand

I've been studying your ideas on this thread from the beginning, and I'm only half way through so far. It's been very exciting to see the teaching and learning going on.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience. I would like to join in your discussion and hopefully I can learn and share.

I want to introduce myself. My name is David Ferguson. I live in Tennessee, about 100 miles North of Memphis. I started trading in the commodity market back in the '80s with a small account of $3000. Back in those days there was no Internet or electronic trading platforms for the small trader like today.

I did everything the hard way back then. I remember how excited I was to get my charts each week and to plan my next trades. At that time I was marking them manually with the OHLC data shown in the Wall Street Journal from my local library which I didn't even get to see until the next day after the markets closed. But even with one day old data to work with, and using only chart patterns and trendlines I made my start trading full sized contracts, and even though I was foolishly overleveraged I still managed to make the account last a little more than a year before I was finally tapped out. I saw that as failure, but looking back now I see that as fairly successful for a beginner. Not what I had dreamed of for my "get-rich-quick" fantasy, but I was hooked and I knew I had to get another stake and begin again.

Anyway I got married, raised a family and had to work a real job but I never forgot my dream of trading for a living.

Fast forward 20 odd years and online trading platforms are around every corner and opportunities abound for everyone. Well I knew I was home! But wait a minute; I was not quite as naive as I was before. Not much more educated, but a little more mature (since I'm now closing in on my second 25th birthday.) I decided to start again, but to take my time and learn properly this time. So I have been trading very small and demo-ing a lot trying to learn as much as possible before I jump in the fire again.

I have spent the last 2+ years trying every method I could find, using every indicator known to man, and every strategy from scalping to trend following and everything in between. And during that time I have managed to become an expert... at finding things that DON'T WORK! Long stretches of disappointment have been mixed with short periods of discouragement, sprinkled with only brief spikes of excitement when something seemed to be working and I was sure I had "found it" this time. Can you relate? I eventually proved to myself (bullheaded as I am) that there is simply no way for me to make money using these fancy garnishments (indicators) on my charts. Especially on the shorter timeframes. About the only thing that I can be thankful for is being able to use the free demo platforms so I saved myself a lot of real losses along the way.

But along the way I have found some things that do work, and have become a much more disciplined and patient trader. Still a noob to be sure, but moving up to the next level. Hell, I still don't know much about candlesticks. Until recently I thought a hammer was for driving a nail and a spinning top was a toy.

Even though I was able to make profits using some of the other methods I tried -- I never gained consistent results until I stopped relying on the crutch of the indicators and started using support and resistance, and started thinking and seeing what price action is telling me. And since I have weaned myself off the indicators and the scalping mentality and become more educated in the action of price I can definitely see more improvement.

I want to trade the daily/weekly periods and be able to profit from price action in the longer term trends. With your generous assistance that's what I'm hoping to learn here.

I'll keep the posts down to a tolerable length from now on. For now, I'm going back to finish studying the rest of the thread.

Don't worry about thinking you may ask a silly or stupid question because there are none - you will get respectful answers from those a little further on The Path of Learning, or myself or any of our Strat Certified Trainers.

thanks for your views grimweasel and strat. improved and refined my own analysis (i.e. equally didn't spot the USD/YEN trendline support).

GBP/CHF still getting ready for a big move. still not clear if up or down (bear flag? break of resistance?). it is currently hitting strong support at lower trend line + 3 MAs + round number 16.800.

i see three possible trades:

1) call a break/retest of 17.500
2) short if a break/retest of the trend line at ~16.800 happens.
3) short a break/retest of 16.600

also check out the bund - it has broken out of the previous consolidation area and reached another crucial resistance zone around 120.20.

Sid,

Why have you honed in on GBPCHF? - what makes it an attractive trade for you? Why this pair over any other pair?

I'm surprised you can't see the likely direction from your charts. Take a 2 second glance at the BIG BOSS, then the BOSS and then the Worker - what do they tell you?

Why have you drawn your trend line from the points you chose?
