You mean working non-forex during NY? yes it is tricky, I always check if there are any major news due-if retail, or NFP or CPI are due I would not trade and walk away. IMHO, better to close at some loss if there are chances loss may widen while you are away and cannot even access your platform to close the trade. lol. I once had to drive back home and close a trade that went horribly wrong and that taught me 
You are not alone. I am down too. But it is all part of the game. I closed my shorts at a loss before leaving for work. It went straight down in no time after that. That is why I hate working during NY session.

Now that are a lots of shorts open.
Because I had some shorts below actual price.
I have in my two accounts about 25 short trades open!
My exposure at this time was about 12%, now only 6%.
My averages now in one account 1.3263 and other 1.3244.
My best Short trades 1.3377, worst one 1.3000.
I closed one of my oldest short at 1.3000 and a lot of other trades and I didn't lose one cent on that one.
I was too confident about to see this week the 1.3100 cross, and I continue, but just in case now I am less exposure to what can happen now.

Yes, I mean non-forex work. I have few more months to go before fulltime switching to trading. Most major moves occur during NY session. Trading off NY session tunes one's mind to smaller moves, and all calculations prove wrong when maket moves bigtime during NY session. I give high importance to getting tuned to bigger moves. That is probably why most seasoned traders favor trading bigger timeframes. Bigger timeframes keep calculations distortion within tolerable limits. This is particularly important for my method, which is purely based on calculations....
