Following the latest [ZEW SURVEY], the head of the institute struck a rather optimistic note, saying that the German economy could reach its lowest point in Q1 of this year with positive growth possible in H2 2009 and driven by improvements in consumption and construction, the former helped by falling inflation. ZEW says the improvement in optimism might be due to the fiscal and monetary measures that have already been adopted, though the institute's spokesman still expects further ECB interest rate cuts ahead, and so do we along with the consensus starting with a further 50 bp reduction on Mar 5 (main refi to 1.5%). Going back to the Feb survey results, the overall Eurozone indices came in at -8.7 from -30.8, while the current conditions component deteriorated further to -91 from -84.7 in Jan, ie mixed readings like Germany.


Unsurprisingly, [EU BONDS] have pared more gains, while [STOCKS] have recovered from their lows on the back of the German ZEW survey for Feb, which was considerably better than expected on the headline measure. Indeed, after 4 consecutive rebounds from last Oct's downbeat -63 reading the main index is back to almost flat and suggests economic sentiment, if the not the economy itself could be close to bottoming out. Meanwhile, UK infl data for Jan was also not as weak as f/c, so altogether less rate cut friendly releases all round have nudged Mar Bunds and Gilts off their earlier 125.65 and 121.96 peaks to 125.37 and 121.54, ie just 18 and 11 ticks ahead vs +46 and +53 ticks at one stage. Conversely, the Dax, FTSE and Cac-40 are now 45-69 pts below par, still weak and underperforming, but compared to -64 to -101 pts at worst.

I just read the last 5 pages that where written on here since i went to sleep last night. I don't understand how everyone still thinks a long position is even conceivable. There is absolutely no reason to believe that we have a bottom in place until we hit the major resistance at 2500 or 2400. We'll see some consolidation or correction, but I think peoples best entry will be 2700....not 3100.

Overall trend is down...and this bad boy is picking up steam to the downward side...I wouldn't put a long in if you held a gun to my head.

4 shorts in right now for an average price of 2746 with a 100 pip profit so far...tightened up my stop to 50 TS but thinking about giving it some more breathing room and putting it just above 2700...

EUR/USD] has been offered all through the EU session with a very small bounce a consequence of a much better than expected ZEW survey (-5.8 vs -25 f/c and prior -31.0). Indeed this even after the ZEW was released in error earlier as -31, and so wrong footing day traders who sold to the lows (1.2602) only to be confronted with reality minutes later. Small stops then to 1.2670 but the bulk of trade under 1.2650 since. The dual weight of a significant trendline break at 1.2720 coupled to the very weak performance of emerging European ccies after a raft of ratings agency concerns and negative press. 1.2600 the key for Eur/Usd now with barriers mulled, large bids a definite. Specs all short Euro and hopeful of a close under 1.2700. Stops widely flagged 1.2570-80. Strong tech support 1.2550.

Hello Turhovach, I picked up on that too. I was up in the middle of the night watching the action. I don't ever recall another trader ever telling me, "send me an e-mail and I'll send you material on how never to lose at Forex again!". Well, one has to use their assets.

Let's do some Math... I was on Sell 20 lot's, at price 1.2770. After +100 pips I started to sell 1/2 lot +- 5 pips. All closed orders = 40 around +100 pips. My question - how many pips I made ?

pip are pips.. your dont multiply them by your lots... some trade bigger accounts then others pips are not relative to how many lots you traded..
