To me on the 11 Feb it looks more like an 18.1, because from the opening and throughout the Asian session the price went up and down again in a 60 pip range although not on both sides of the open price, thereafter later in the European session you could enter a buy trade at the opening price of 1566 more or less as illustrated on the figure 18.1a.

It also fits the 18.4 where the market has formed a day range of 100 or so pips. The entry time for a sell trade according to the figure 18.4a is in the very late European session and/or NY session (at the open price of 1566). This would have been a losing trade, even the stop and reverse would not have made up for it. At the time we would not know this of course.

One way or the other I need to gain a lot more experience looking for the right templates.

Seems like I miss some mental assets to say the same thing.

I'm trying to figure out your diamond on usd/jpy. It seems too messy for my unexperienced eyes and I'm fully aware that I've most likely drawn it wrong.

I must be a lot further away from understanding the templates, if at all, than I thought. I certainly have no wish to waste time nor try to convince anyone.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Apart from whichever template, the buy setup was supported by the fact that the move from the latter part of the previous day was up, the entry was above the days low and at the open price of the day.

The US trade balance came out favourably that day as well.

As for the diamonds, that's another story. The posts on that subject are always interesting.

So what side breakout has more potential on this diamond?

I just meant that whenever there is an obvious pattern on a larger time frame charts you should go for it rather than applying intraday templates. This is only a matter of common sense.

There are templates for diamonds as well. Making the right choice between them means that the one with the more obvious outcome and the target must be preferred.
