[LLOYDS TSB] shares collapse 35%+ on announcement of a bigger than expected Gbp7 bn of impairements at [HBOS] - RBS falls 8%, Barclays 7% in sympathy. Lloyds core Tier 1 capital ratio at the end of 2008 is estimated to be within the range 6.0-6.5%. FTSE now negative by 20 points after hitting an earlier high of +89 points.


The [POUND] coming off aplenty now. A UK clearer has been a seller of Cable in the latest run, the move coinciding with Lloyds announcing it sees HBOS losses of Gbp 8.5bln. Contacts suggest the sum is larger than expected and stops have been tripped through the 1.4475/90 region. More stops are in place through a clear 1.4440 break, we are told. Those short-termers who joined the pre G7 rush to pare Gbp shorts/initiate longs could well be regretting their actions. More on the Lloyds announcement to follow.

I have a 5M downwards channell as well. Only it touched the topsid to the pip (1.2865) before it went down. If this channel holds, the next bounce up shoud be at 1.2800. I have a hedge there. Let's see how it turns out

Break above 1.28774 T1 @ 1.29133 T2 @ 1.29493 higher break signals a longer term Bullish Trend...

Break below 1.28057 T1 @ 1.277 T2 @ 1.27342 lower break signals a longer term continuation of Bearish Trend...

IMO whipsaw is strong possibility today...

This may or may not be the case; where you closed out, price was testing a Lower Low Bar (the 5min bar 11:15 GMT H=1.2869 L=1.2860), before continuing it's journey south.

I am already short from 1.2911 and am expecting a run down to 1.2766 (eventually).

A bombshell from [LLOYDS] that its subsidiary [HBOS} had lost around Gbp8.5bn last year, shook the EUROPEAN ASSET MARKETS] out of their lunchtime slumber. The [FTSE] which had been comfortably trading around +40 on the day crashed to -20 as Lloyds, RBS and Barclays dropped 35%, 13% and 7% resp. [DAX] dropped in sympathy as financial shares globally got hammered. FTSE now 4192 off 10 points, Dax 4419 up 12 points. [GILTS] moved 15 ticks lower on the news and have continued to slip, now trading at 120.71, down 71 ticks on the day and just above 120.62 low. [BUNDS] faring better than UK counterpart but still off just a fraction above their lows and now quoted at 124.30, -47 on the day.


[THE US STIMULUS VOTE] The House of Representatives, having delayed debate and voting on the stimulus bill yesterday, has begun debate today. A vote is planned today before noon. Senate Majority Leader Reid has said the Senate will also vote on the bill today, but timing in the Senate is less certain. Reid had originally intended to hold a Senate vote after the House, and has not begun debate today. Reid has also said the Senate won't adjourn until this vote has been held. Unlike normal budget reconciliation bills, this bill can be filibustered in the Senate, but there was sufficient Republican support for the Senate version of the bill to forestall filibuster, and there is no sign that has changed. Odds are, though, that Treasury trade will be done for the week before the final votes are cast.

[PM BROWN] speaking in Coventry says that the UK is planning to sign lending agreements with banks which will ensure more loans are made. He adds that the govt will ensure that nobody who is 'genuinely' attempting to repay their mortgage will have their home repossessed. Brown notes that the bonus culture and bank regulation 'has got to change'. Recall our earlier comment noted that a new Times poll showed growing public backlash against banks with 89% of the public in that survey also critical of the govt, believing it should have ensured that no public money ended up being used to pay bonuses.

I am sorry that has not entered a short that I had at market at 2953
while last night (for me) I slept.

EURUSD today did not show anything new and that is why I sought points of reference on other currencies such as GBPCHF.

Ok ... for the rest of the day I see only the ability to understand what EURUSD will do through GBPCHF.

I imagine that for now he will rise even if not much, and will be further short when and where we will see GBPCHF at some level.
