Given the size of moves on Wall St and the big sell off for the Pound, the last 12 hours of [EUR/USD] trade has been relatively tame.


Although [EU BOURSES] already suffered a sharp fall from grace during Tue's pm session, eventually ending 2-3.5% or more underwater, the negative response to the US bank bail-out or financial stability plan has continued since the close and is likely to weigh on the main indices again in early trade today. Currently, futures point to a further retreat in the region of 1.5%, at least, with banking stocks all set to be the underperformers again, along with oil-related companies/sectors as crude prices fall with global equities (Mar Nymex now just above $38/brl and down to fresh $37.35 contract low last night). Note also, Credit Suisse is the latest to post a hefty Q4 and 2008 loss (former Chf6.02 bn vs Chf4 bn f/c, latter Chf8.2 bn - biggest annual loss ever), following hot on the heels of UBS yest and both are expected to fall off the open.

[A CLOUD BACK OVER THE POUND] We have already breached first major fibo support of 1.4415/20 in Cable (38.2% of 1.3500/1.4986). The period between late Jan through to last Fri's NFPs was one of tentative positive sentiment. The Pound, a well oversold unit on UK economic doom mongering and aggressive BOE interest rate cutting, leaped higher and proved the risk appetite king to that 1.4986 best.

i thought about holding positions over the weekend but the market is too shakey for me right now

I concur, with this slow session I don't know what to expect tomorrow, All i know is it might be big moves, timing is going to be the key. my prediction was that 2960 would be reached by 6 am, we'll see if that holds, but then do we have a pullback before us session and then a rally...

any ideas... anybody

Just taken a quick scalp from 1.2926 up to 1.2958, and closed out: Reason, I feel it will reverse and come back down at 1.2964 area.

man all equity futures are in the crapper right now... better hide your children.. its gona be a rough ride soon. oils up.65 and its still below 39..other then that i dont see what holding eu up from falling..

The [RIKSBANK EASES ANOTHER 1 FULL PT], taking Sweden's key repo rate down to 1% from 2%. This is twice the market expectation (-50 bp), and comes on top of the CB's very aggressive 175 bp cut in early Dec.

all bloombergs futures and equity are red... but this report contradicts

Good performance by [EUROPEAN EQUITY MARKETS] this morning turning round earlier 1% losses into small gains. FTSE now up at 4226, +13 points, after hitting a 4182 low, while Dax showing gains of 12 points at 4517 against a low of 4466. [BONDS] keeping most of this morning's early gains although trading ranges so far limited. Bunds now 122.85, +50 ticks, in a 122.63-122.97b range and Gilts up 38 at 118.30 in a tight 118.24-118.56 band. Both bonds on alert as UK unemployment data at 09.30GMT/BoE quarterly infl report 10.30GMT and Eur6bn Bund 10yr auction at 10.00GMt focus the minds. Oil a tad better at lower levels, $38.30/brl, gold benefitting from uncertainty, now $915/oz.

Today like yesterday I am doing an almost identical trade. I am long until 2980. I have a stop at 2888. I'll see how things pan out with the trade and modify if necessary.

My strategy is based around pivot pts and psyche levels.
It feels weird to quote myself but yeah this trade worked out well. I'd like to think that this new system is working but I've got a long way to go. I need to test this for at least another two months so that I have some degree of confidence in it.
