The [USD/CHF] traded in a tight range during the Asian session rising by about 50 points to near the 1.1660 level before sliding back down towards the 1.1600 level during the European session. It started the NY session around the 1.1605 level rising to an o/n high of 1.1685 before making an o/n low of 1.1578 in late NY trade. data release in Switzerland yest saw The Purchasing Managers Index contracting in for the fifth consecutive month. The PMI number was released at 35.0, versus market expectations of 36.1. The index sits at multi-year lows, showing that inflationary pressures are almost zero as the SNB looks likely to keep interest rate at 0.5% for some time to come. Buying orders at 1.1560 by a UK Clearer will protect the downside and selling orders at 1.1680 by a French name will keep the range this session.


Japan's [BOJ] in a bid to boost the financial as well as corporate sector, says that it will start to buy up to Yen 1 trn of shares held by Japanese banks, of companies rated BBB- or above. The buying program will start as soon as possible and last through to April 2010. BOJ will not sell the shares before March 2012. [NIKKEI-AV] closed 0.1% firmer in the mrg session but set to surge later on, with Nikkei futures rallying strongly after the BOJ share plan is announced during the midday break.


The [EUR/YEN] quickly goes up to 115.34, then quickly down to the earlier trading level of 114.80-70. The pair has ended NY below 116 on Jan 22/23 (2 days) and on Jan 30/Feb 2 (also 2 days), and so watch whether today's NY close be below 116 (for 3 consecutive days). The 21-days MA is down to 118.49.

I agree...waiting to see if breaks 1.29 before going long..If breaks that with ease then I think it will go higher but for now....sitting back and watching..

I went short at 1.2858, just following indicators...tight stop.

gonna watch Heroes while waitin for the rate to break. which way? we'll just have to wait i guess...

I was just thinking about it earlier today but in a haphazard sort of way, thinking I need to get back up to speed on it. I traded it down from the low teens to the sub parody lows on the first run, then gave up when it went into consolidation, and then I just never got back to it...

Maybe, some additional high, but...obviously, we will retest 1.2750 again!

20 pip stop hit...gave back some gains from long.

[AUST RBA REVIEW] RBA kept its aggressive easing stance intact by slashing Australia's official interest rate by 100bps to 3.25%; its lowest level since the 1960's. The move was widely expected and seen in an all out bid to prevent the country from falling into a deep set recession amidst the rapid as well as broadening deterioration in global and local economic conditions since it's last Dec 3rd meeting. The hefty reduction follows Dec's 100bps rate cut, Nov's 75bps reduction, Oct's 100% cut and Sept's 25bps easing; and brings to 400bps, the cumulative reductions since Sept last year.


[MORE FROM RBA] In its accompanying statement, RBA highlighted that there was a significant deterioration in world economic conditions late in 2008; which had resulted in a significant downturn in Global demand.
