Classic sign of a fake out - lower volume on the run ups.
Check the volume of shares traded today, even on the spike upwards. (on the DOW)

Yes - I'm on the short bus and will look like I have a crystal ball by Wednesday.

Just like you said there is a lot of times that last spike up.. or fake out.. to shake out a lot of the shorts and to hit stops (IMO) before the real move heads back down.. I've been waiting since thursday for the perfect spot to jump in short.. and scalping during the wait.

maybe the timing is finally right. not convinced quite yet though

Galation,

Go to the COT report and u will see banks are long Eur but Hedge funds are short. I would follow Hedge funds on the short term.

Go to www.cftc.gov
scroll down to Commitment of traders click on it,look to the right for current reports click on it,
scroll down to futures and options link across from chicago mercantile exchange and click on long form.

How do you use this on a short term basis when it only comes out weekly after the fact ?

they are reported on tues. cftc puts it out on friday, it takes large institutions weeks to unload or add positions, keeping a weekly record in an excel spreadsheet will give you an insight into when position direction is occuring.

LOL! Probably the same way some folks here "scalp" one minute charts using Daily, Weekly and Monthly trendlines to help them make their trading decisions http://www.forexfactory.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
