when one is poor, "things" are everything, when one is middle class, "things "are for status and sometimes comfort, and when one is rich, "things" are for tax write offs !

Trust funds do not lend themselves to forex, but rather to stocks and bonds, and trust funds are needed by the very rich (and often the not so rich !)

Dude, please don't mind me borrowing your words as this is the perfect explanation that I've been looking for to explain things to my colleagues.
you can't be famous because of it.

to become famous, you need to publish your theory or something, and that is not forex.
to be know by other , you need to spend the money, and that is not forex.

if you do something that is very usefull for other for free, you are a good guy, but you may be economically stupid.

Not quite so, even an entire continent cannot manipulate forex prices, at least in the long run. In the short run (a few days at most) some countries do have some very limited power. If you don't believe me read the fascinating book "The Vandal's Crown : How Rebel Currency Traders Overthrew the World's Central Banks (Hardcover) by Gregory J. Millman

But even that should not worry us a bit, as long as we (the traders) follow the trend, up or down it does not matter.

I read somewhere that a very gutsy forex trader once traded, get this, over 65,000 standard lots of Deutchmark back in the 90's !

The guy made close to a billion dollars almost right from the start only to lose it all after that.

Talk about greed ! :-D
Doesn;t Victor Niederhoffer trade currencies as well? The guy used to work for Soros. He lost everything when the Thai baht collapsed back in the 1997 crisis, but he is now back in the game

Yeah, that's the same guy who said in one of his book that trend-following systems and system analysis in general do not work.

This guy is a total joke, a loser who is giving us lessons! He could have made a fortune just "following" the collapse of the baht but no, trend-following is not good enough for him.

I can't really call him a joke. At least he's still richer than most of us even after losing that much money. LOL

He has his own hedge funds now which i think were ranked as the highest performing for 2-3 yrs in a row, something like 50% a year?

I would refrain from calling him a joke as well ;-)
in Romania a couple of years ago a guy (you can use a if you want to) won 4 million $ in one day from forex. He was shown on national tv,press and everything that involves publicity. This was after he just bankrupted (=steal) the biggest mutual stock fond in my country and he was in search of some commercial.
This days he just sold an inssurance company for a great amount of money, not sure how many.

A guy who had a few Billions before but has "only" a few millions now is STILL a loser, don't you think ?
I spoke with my stock broker about this thread and he told me that he has another client now (that client was also a stock market broker) that made 1 mil $ from forex in 2 years. He traded around 16 hours a day he claims, starting with 2500$.
I don't know if it's true or not, but this is what he told me.
