im also self taught based on that the price seems to be nothing but just going down....it is so steep, no reaction highs and no reaction lows......

if you think im wrong then i stand corrected....
here is a very important lesson i learned. price action ALWAYS goes in channels, whether its triangles or wedges or whatever...there is always an upper boundary and a lower boundary, sometimes these walls are visible on 1minute chart...sometimes 15minutes..sometimes only 4 hours..sometimes only months...the point is there is always a lower and higher wall. this is crucial in the world of trading because it creates breakout points. i used to think price action is only active at certain times, wrong...its active when a pattern nears completion and most often times those breakouts occur in the direction of the market sentiment.

I guess we figure if we can get in touch with out emotional side then we might be able to control it when we trade.
perfect example right here..this triangle could continue until the asian session...from the looks of it though it can break out any minute now...there is an upper wall and and a lower wall...price action will be determined when this particular "channel" goes above or below the given lines...exclude false breakouts..this triangle has taken over 5hours to reach this stage...but it may have taken 30minutes on a 1m chart..would it still not be a triangle then?

Edit:it broke to the upside while i was typing...as expected given current market sentiment...the down move today has great fundamentals behind it but i think we all agree a partial retracement is required when such a massive move occurs..the only question remaining is whether its a false breakout

Now that we've retested the major trend line "starting in 2002" we have a good chance to see were this baby is going. It is the third major retest, which is when they are most likely to break. But no real clear signal yet, figure it will hang some what close to the TL for the next week, look at the first bounce to determine how far off the TL price will likely hang around "barring no significant news", in which time is a good area to determine overall sentiment. I do like to go with the assumption the trend is in affect until proven other wise, so I consider it still in a long term upward trend even if the current sentiment is down.

You don't need a clear signal. It will break. The reason is that the N/U has already broken and bounced against it's 2001 TL. Also N/U correlates with E/U over the long term. It will break, the exact day on which it will break is unknown.
