The UK is about to fold.

I've been forecasting this for months.

Second quarter GDP is on tap this week, dropping retail sales, a widening trade deficit, massive layoff in the financial sector, etc.

Germany's chancellor prognosticated a negative GDP for 2009 and I believe the UK is in the same boat.

The Zone is a ton of trouble... if you think the US congress is ripe with drivel and squabble - you ain't seen nothing yet.

If a deal on the bailout package is reached by Monday expect dollar strength.

Long term - I expect the dollar to strengthen... short term... I expect most roller coasters to offer a smother ride than what may happen this week.

I agree Acumen...the U.K. is in strife and the zone will suffer.

One thing that interests me about the bail-out for the U.S. is the Feds $700B fairy dust has/and will do bugger all to address the long term exposure to CDS's in the U.S. banking sector....

U.S. CDS exposure is close to $16.5 trillion....JPM eats up half that exposure, Citibank and Bank of America next followed by HSBC & Wachovia.....as a matter of interest JPM accounts for 12% of total credit derivatives outstanding in the world...add into that declining wages compared to the CPI, higher energy and food costs, decline in the real estate sector and a tax payer invoice for $700B, it doesn't paint that rosy a picture does it...one things for certain...it's an interesting time to be trading thats for sure

Downfall of great nations are usually not forecasted. They happen when no one is looking. Also predictions of who will be the next superpower are usually wrong too.

China has a whole sh*tload of problems to work out before they are considered "great". Like how about having a safe food supply. But even more importantly having more freedom than at present.

Hi Fontu, I can’t agree with you, sorry.
The long term trend is still intact and that is LONG.
What you are talking about is a middle term short trend that is a retracement from the long term trend.

Open a Monthly chart and draw your trend line.

This middle term short trend was clearly broken last Monday, look at the TL in my daily chart. It will come back only if we break and hold 61.8 FIB at about 1.4260.

BTW, this bailout plan is only bad in my opinion, doesn’t matter what it will be, there is an additional 700b US depth
(They need to add the Washington mutual to that)
that needs to get paid, my question: Who is going to pay that? You see anything positive for USD in this, let me know?
