gustav shouldnt impact things tonight not until the oil is in "danger" which will happen after the market closes

Maybe... in the short-term Gustav may take crude up but in a medium-term EUR may come down. Barclays Analyst has revised ECB rate forecast. Now 25bps cut in March'09 - Previously rates on hold.

Nothing can be ruled out .Oil is slow up since morning 115$ to 117 now ,gold too 826$ to 834$ now .
More news on oil still there today:
Britain's Daily Telegraph reported Russia may restrict oil shipments in the coming days in response to the European Union's threat of sanctions over its military action in Georgia.

Traders said the report, along with the approach of Tropical Storm Gustav towards the Gulf of Mexico, gave a lift to oil prices and helped push the dollar lower

Just be carefull all shorter including myself . The top of downtrend may be 1.4788 , will place short at or any above it top today.

No worry about shorts but you should take the profit home whenever doubt sxists ,20 pips is not not small thing when every pips counts. It will be mad Up & some down perhaps anytime or limited but more frequent sideways or spikes . All due to indecision & fear may act together> some sorts approach-avoidence conflicts.

wish i knew how to scalp.i dont seeem to get the direction of the trend.it looks like its fluctuating.

scalping is simple in logic, determine trend, short term supports and resistances, and just play off those walls. putting a trade in the middle of a trend (like i did) thinking it will break in one direction shouldnt be done, its a gamble. one other thing, when buying at strong supports or selling at resistances within a trend, tight stop loss (no more than 10pips) should be employed, you never know when a pair will break a trend.

edit:a good example is today, an upwards channel was established 18 hours ago since the low, been playing between those lines all day until 61.8 fib which is currently the strong resistance, a break of this implies a strong move up, a break of the lower trend line, which is currently 1.4735 implies a strong move down...those are the points to be scalping at although a break could come any time now

Counter trend is ussualy a bad idea in my opinion at least, unless the trend looks overextended and the resistance looks heavy anough to even possibly be a reversal point. Of course, to each his own..

Example is the weekly pivot now, going to see if it doesn't break quick and maybe scalp a small short..

Edit: OK maybe not, Oanda's working like sh*t this morning. Oh well.. maybe it's for the better..

Edit: upper trend line has to be broken for true up break confirmation ...currently 1.4770/75
