Turning an MT4 Indicator into a Template?

Hello, and thanks for stopping by.

I trade using MT4 and use both some home-made templates, as well as a number of the free indicators that come pre-loaded with MT4, such as ATR, Standard Deviation, Moving Average, MACD, Parabolic SAR, Volumes, etc.

I also have used the Alert tab on MT4 – and MT4 will give me an alert when a price reaches a specified level.

However, I am looking for a way to get a sound alarm when an indicator has a specific movement. For example, if Parabolic SAR changes direction, or if Volume reaches a certain level, or if two Moving Averages cross, etc…

I know that MT4 does not offer the user the ability to set an alarm based on an indicator. So I was wondering, would it be possible to program a template that exactly mimics an indicator? And if you could, then set an alarm to it? Has anyone tried something like this before?

I have no programming ability, but would like to know if such a thing is possible. And if possible, I would be willing to higher someone to write such a program for me.

Thanks for you time,
And as always – trade well everybody

there are a number of indicators out there that already do what you are asking for. In particular look in the metatrader section and do some searches. I think you will find everything that you need.

thanks magnumfreak,
i had been doing some searching, and hadn't found anything, then
i was talking with my broker earlier today, they offer mt4, and I was told you could not set an alarm to activate based on their pre-loaded indicators...

but now that I know such a thing actually does exist, I will continue my search. are you suggesting I look in the MT4 platform to figure out how its done, or for custom made indicators elsewhere on the internet?

thanks again.

One way to do it would be to use the Alert command after your signal condition.

For example,

if(your signal condition) Alert("Signal condition is satisfied!");

The Alert box will pop up & sound an alarm upon your signal condition being true.

You can do this for any signal condition you want, as long as it can be logically coded, for example, MA crosses, indicator values hitting a certain level or increasing/decreasing, etc. Limited only by your creativity & ability to properly program the condition.
