Swissy short DIBS closed half 1:1, The express was runninga teeny weeny bit late....

Euro I4B long - aiming for 1:4 on this one, TP for half set at 1.5638.

Hello,

Today was a test in patience ...so far. My e/u was stopped out but I renter after the news and now I am on the free eurail express after locking 2/3. U/J I closed before news but managed some positive pips. The swissy I closed before the news at b/e...so overall Im in the positive but felt unsure about my decisions. Are you guys staying with your trade during news even if you run a high risk of being stopped out by the spread?

Nice going guys!

In a word, yes. I will pull entries before news so I don't get stopped in by widening spreads, but I figure that if the trade I'm already in has been doing so badly that the news spread is going to kill it, then it deserves to die... so I might as well leave it on just in case it doesn't get hit and breaks my way. It's giving up a few pips that don't mean much in order to possibly grab a whole fistful of them that will mean much more.

That's something I have questioned too Moneda. Along with the spike in spread there's often a jump/fall in price before the big move (if any).

So I'm not too sure about what to do in these situations myself

Archiphage,

The one thing we are not taking in consideration is that your stoploss order may be bypassed by slippage or price action during the momentum created by significant and/or surprising news.

I would lean more towards closing..waiting for the dust to settle and reenter if it makes sense... having said that, there may be situation where you are already on a free trade...your goal is long term and your stoploss is far away from the nonsense.

If I have a trade on that's already moved a decent amount I might ride it out but I do hesitate to enter the market just before some big news. Maybe a way around this would be the lower time frames after the news?
