What is the difference between .ex4, .tpl and .mq4 EA's? I can attach some but not others. Do I drop one in a different folder than the indicators folder? Frustrated, any help would be great. I tried dropping the .tpl ones in the template folder but it didn't work. thanks Rob

i dont know the tpl format however the mq4 is a text file that a coder creates; once created, he/she then compiles it into an ex4 file which then can be run against a chart.

i.e.
myIndicator.mq4 (text file people can read)
myIndicator.ex4 (byte code for the program to run)

under the install directory you can find an expert directory:
experts go into the expert directory
indicators go into the expert\indicator directory

The .tpl file is a template file, not an EA. It changes how your chart looks, it doesn't trade for you.

I know that is a template, but I download it to the Expert Advisor folder and then drag it into the templates folder but it doesn't work in the template folder or the indicators folder. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

It only goes in the experts > templates folder if it's an EA.

If it's a regular chart template then it goes in the other templates folder.
