Totally agree, there will be no obivious revel of anything to us, he/she is cryptic in what is said, we have to decifer what is being said i suppose to how we trade and interrupt it to our trading system we have....... we are all individuals and trade in different ways to each other, what works for you may not work for me but that is what makes the whole trading game exciting.... don't you think?

And also makes us INDIVIDUALS...........!!

OK - this is fun!

From my notes of his posts - Dove uses Weighted, exponential & rolling MA's. (does rolling mean 'simple' MA?)

Here is another hint of the 'base' taken from one of Dove's posts.....

"The base of all the indicators allows you to place two indicators into one…. This allows you to have a crossing in the MA’s, either for the entry or exit, as a trigger. I use this trigger for my entries as the pivots are my exit. Even in a retrace, the set up I have will give me the exact timing of entry as the retrace finishes. The base and the parameters must match and be precise or they do not work."


I got this somewhere on the internet regarding Linear regression:
"Unlike a Moving Average, the Linear Regression Indicator does not exhibit as much delay. As the Linear Regression Indicator is fitting a line to the data points rather than simply averaging them, the Linear Regression line becomes more responsive to changes in prices. The Linear Regression Indicator can be thought of as a forecast of the tomorrow's price plotted today."

Another hint:
"I use a 120 tick bar to determine opening and closing of candles concerning the pivots and also tracking the trend."

And...."My tick bar is set at 120 which is in between the 5 and 10 minute chart".

I have no idea what a tick bar is - can someone shed some light on this??

Tick = price movement. So each bar consists of 120 price movements, up or down.

Makes sense. Tick charts, since they're based on price movement rather then just time periods, won't have dead periods where indicators flatline because there's little activity going on. During high volume periods, you'll just get lots of bars popping up and the opposite during low volume.

So if I understand this correctly a 120 tick bar is a separate 'candlestick' (or bar) of the last 120 trades, and has no time basis?

If so - is it a good assumption that a MA or LR plot of this type of chart be closer to the true value? Or for that matter any other indicator - such as Momentum?

Only one problem - my charting package doesn't have ticks

Might have to find one that does...

Correct. When the Yen moves from 115.86 to 115.87, that is a single tick. 119 more such movements, up or down, will make up an entire 120tick candle. Through this method, candles and chart patterns are built on trading activity rather then arbitrary periods of time.

I used tick charts in futures trading. Futures times are the same as the US markets, 9:30 - 4:15. However, electronic trading goes on throughout the weeknights but is very slow. For that reason I'd use tick charts because over the course of 8-10 hours, you would have lots of time based bars that very slowly move but the lack of activity threw off the indicators and gave lots of false triggers (well not really false, but the low volume trading meant the moves were only a few pips). By using ticks, your bars are drawing based on activity and therefore reflect that.

Well, true value is a misleading term. The value is always 'true', you're just looking at it from a different perspective.

One element about Dove's trading that I noted he has commented on is that he has stated several times that he will not give out his indicators because the are not standard and no-one else will be able to replicate them, essentially making them worthless.

How bespoke they are we wouldn't be able to tell without being able to compare them to more standard offerings. If the indicators he is using are able to tell him with the accuracy he shows when trends are changing then it is an outstanding achievement that he has accomplished. Mearly looking at the simple strategy of taking 7 pips when the trend changes on a short term chart with a very high success rate would produce more profits than anyone could expect.

I have a small account with FX Solutions from previous trading before I moved over to MT4 and I have just started looking at the Accucharts. There is a lot in there reagrding indicators, but so far I haven't found what I always considered a standard LR, with channels being drawn on the charts. There is an LR oscillator but I'm not sure how to use this as yet.

Good luck with anyone trying to emulate Doves trading environment. I would suggest trying to do this with MT4 or any other charting package other than Accucharts would be a tall order.

Lets see if we can use his tips and move in the right direction.

I agree, it seems as if this pair cannot get passed todays 115.58 Pivot Point, thus trading below the PP and possibly leading it back down to Support Level 1 of 114.7 ish. Current Stochastics and RSI movements have remianed neutral in the one hour charts. Adding to that downmove, it seems as if the pair cannot seem to overtake the 55hour EMA. Although daily charts support our evidence of a down move, 4hr charts are the exact opposite as they are in oversold territory. With this in mind i have placed a short order at 115.45 w/ SL at 115.65 (PP + pip room), and a PT of 115 (Psychological support level). What do you guys think???

i think the schaff trend cycle is also useful in determining the start of a trend (10 min chart)... but not the exit...

Almost every piece of data is pointing to a weak NFP.

I'm not a fundamentalist but I don't think I would want to be dollar long into tomorrow.

On that note I can't explain why the dollar is gaining on the Yen.

If it's not stop hunters I sure would like a reason why this pair is headed North.

I can give you a truck load of reasons why it should be headed South.

Tick charts are available within Accucharts, which is offered in a limited form online here, and also as part of the desktop version offered freely by FX Solutions.

Oh dear, what have I let myself in for.....spent the last day researching LSLR and got sidetracked into new forums and sites.....so many new indicators for MT4 - hundreds

I found that I already had a LSLR indicator in my toolbox on my old puter - called Trigger Lines - 2 LSLR averages that cross and give signals by colour change. There´s also an alert version for the indicator window.

On other sites I found a plain LSLR average and also a slope indicator.

So far with all of these I´ve found too many signals on the lower TFs, but this may be a matter of finding the correct inputs - or just using them on a higher TF to stay in the trend.....wonder if I´m on the right track?
