i really appreciate the learnings and the insights from this thread.

i don't want to piss anyone off.. just want to check that i'm seeing things correctly.

i understand the pivot principle and am using them..

The hardest thing for me is spotting the entry point.. like now.. i'm seeing price range between the r2 and an upchannel.. (which i recognise may not be observed)

my charts say it is more likely to go up than down and even the daily is starting to look as though it may swing bull..

however, the hard bit for me is spotting that point to go in..

guess it's just experience..

however i am trying to get a feel for this pair and it does seem a little less scarey than the gbp/jpy which i have been concentrating on recently.

less movement here but i really like the prospect that it will respect the pivots...

anyway..

my feeling is that i will give up on long if price breaks 11600 which i am seeing as the mid point between r1 and r2

Hi Dove,

When you say that there isn't anything on pivots for the public what do you mean exactly?

As I mentioned earlier I used pivots exclusively in my early days, and picked up a lot of that information from a course I bought from Peter Bain, so if you mean that there isn't anything available thats free then I would probably agree with you. There is information in the public domain though.

We know that the details of the pivots are out there due to the number of pivot indicators that have been written for MT4. Maybe they are not being used correctly though, my first crude pivot system simply involved buying if the 15 minute candle closed above R1, sell if below S1 adding at R2 and S2.

If there is any courses that traders can purchase or get for free then post it because I couldn't find anything. Something that will be helpful for them would appreciated.

Spotted and entered a short @ 116.36.
But I got out way way too early.... still gotta learn to let my good trades ride a bit more

Forex Mentor by Peter Bain is an excellent course which I took last year. I won't post a link as I don't know what the rules are here about that, but people can google it.

Hi Dove....from your comments earlier...."If I seem a little harsh then I deeply apologize……" - NO WAY, IMO its the time wasters with their continually repeated questions that should be apologising to you.

I for one am very grateful for the time you spent helping me get back to using pivots and understanding how to get the best out of them with not only UJ, but also GJ.

As Dutch Trader has pointed out, they work very well with the Yen pairs and as a Cable trader who has moved to GJ, I´m using your ideas on a pair that I am more familiar with .....I use the GBPJPY Analysis thread for my continuing development of ideas using pivots etc.

Some interesting history on pivots - the were initially used by the floor traders in the open outcry trading pits more than 30 years ago. In those days, all they could take onto the floor was a small note of important levels and so they started using pivots. There were no electronic devices and the trading was done by hand signals .......now that was trading!

Smiling - Yes, I know; Pivot trading goes back a long, long time ago..... I have found them to be most reliable indicator on the market...... I do appreciate and thank you.

Of coz .. yes... it was CLEARLY drawn on my charts, but focus on other things threw me off... trust me.. it wont get me too many more times.. LOL

You are of course going to watch to see if it penetrates the 61.8% retracement, which it is at now and then I would say probably to 115.31 which is the central pivot and also the halfway point between the 61.8 and 100% retracement.

Yea - I'm watching this pit stop now, but I have no doubt that the central will be the resting place.

Why the no doubt? I would think that since price has bounced off of the 61.8 level and now sits at R1 which is now defacto support, that it would be a strong indication that price would stall and/or bounce at this point. Why are you so confident that it will go to the central?

Dove I'm a bit confused.

The last time we had the price at 166.60 was over 4 hours ago, but there has been a discussion about long trades after that time where you mentioned that you were looking at longs similar to other traders.

If that was the case why were you short and stayed short?
