The pullback is a 50–50 situation. Sometimes the price even comes back to the Tenkan, reacts there at the start of the trend, then continues in the new direction. Sometimes it doesn’t.
When the 9-period range breaks, price can move straight to the target, go into a bit of ranging, and then fully change direction.
What really matters is whether the target is hit at the moment of the breakout or not. I’ll explain this part to you.
From the PM you sent me, it’s clear that you’ve fully understood the concept. I’ll explain the next step to you for analysis & target setting

Which day and time is this trade for? I don’t have similar candles on my chart—I've checked multiple times, especially at the beginning of January.
You should have entered on the previous candle. Your entry was late, half of the target had already been reached by the time you entered.

The Chikou Span is always 26 periods behind, right?
Whenever the 9-period range( before the Tenkan) is broken, you need to check the Chikou Span to see whether it has broken the price or not.
In general, I said it’s better if this breakout confirmation doesn’t take more than 3 candles. Sometimes, even after waiting 8–9 candles, the market still changes direction, but that comes with higher risk.

For now, not at all. I take trades both in the direction of the trend & against it. So far, we’ve only gained a small understanding of Ichimoku. Here, the EMMA zone is also important. Trades need to be monitored carefully. When Kumo cloud crosses happen, you should check the status of Tenkan & Kijun—whether the trend can continue or if it will at most reverse from the EMMA zone.
There are many topics left to discuss, but for now, please continue with the Tenkan & the 9-period range before it, following the explanations I’ve already given.

New subscriber, but not new to Ichimoku. So many fresh and clever observations from your intensive study on these pages!

This is YOUR effort but I do wish to thank Dr. Tyross for his excellent previous forum on Ichimoku now more than a few years distant. Clearly, he appreciates this blog as well!

I do have a question now that I have read through twice. Let us say P x the Tenken BUT the TS and KS have not been on one side of the kumo for a full 9 bars. My reading suggests this is not tradable.

However, let us say a few bars later both the TS and KS are now on one side for 9 bars or more, and all other Core Rules are met. Yes, it could be a bit late, but what about one entering now? Some limited backtesting on my part implies this often emerges as a successful trade.

Should I shut down this idea, or does it have merit?

Wonderful example. I am curious if this is primarily relevant to the D1? Of course, the H4 hinted something sooner.

People you are complicating this Ichimoku thing. In trading the more simple the best. Entry into the trade is only 10% of the whole business, Money Management and controlling MindFuck(Fear ands Greed) is other 90% of it. I posted few of my trades before and will post some this week.

Im just uploaded a template based on original (im respectfull to original) structure of Ichimoku Kinko Hiyo indicator (price and time theories included) Im working on to complete by add wave theory, too. I think anyone can see "at a glance". I would like to hear from you (but firstly, I like to "swim in original sea to sense the coming wave").

Still it's it in task form but when finished it will be like that;
green/red dots (at the top/bottom) chioku free bull/chioku free bear
crosses at the top of the bar: overextended
gray dots at the bottom: equilibrium
green/red trianlges (below/above bar): N-Waves
green/dark-brown Diamons: V-Waves
Coloured Back-Ground Green to Red (up/down): Time Cycle
In the indicator everything is original,
indicator's Structure is advanced by adding the theories in presenting with the original "at a glance" (one look), respectivelly.
*No any painting
*No any filters
*No any adjusment ( as original 9, 26, 26, 52)
* No any indicators implemented to original one.
* (I added volume indicator to chart, optionally).

Many pro-traders (I know you’re one, too) would put it as low as 5%.

But you and I both know that you’re never going to convince most people posting in trading forums of that: to many, an “entry-method” is a “trading system,” period. More or less.

People read PDFs and look at Youtube and are conditioned to believe that “as long as they get the entry right” everything else will somehow, magically, work out ok.

And this lunacy gets reinforced so regularly and so reliably that they never learn better.

You just joined(2025) but you are on the correct track with this mindset. I spend first 5 years working hard on studying, analyzing proper and statistically viable Money Management techniques and ways to control my Mindfuck so I can actually get to assigned TP.

95% of "want to be" traders at the same time were looking for the perfect indicator to enter the market. Most of them are gone or still looking.

Took 5 years but then it clicked, been trading live for the past 6 years with very little attention to the entries. 100% + a year, yearly.

I just wanted to talk about the importance of the number 17
In my view, 17 is the pillar & the core of Ichimoku—I call it the Ichimoku balance. I use it to measure balance and imbalance in the market.
Based on the number 17, the EMMA zone & the center of Ichimoku are defined. This was meant as an introductory topic, leading into the discussion about the EMMA zone.
The EMMA zone itself represents the core of Ichimoku at the baseline (start point),it works based on touches—which, in essence, are about time.

About your question, you’ve raised a very good point. This situation happens quite often in corrective waves, especially Wave 2. Yes, it can be profitable, but only if one knows how to identify where the corrective wave ends. Without that knowledge, the losses can easily outweigh the gains.
If you’re looking to spot the end of a corrective wave, I suggest focusing on the EMMA zone and the 68-period range before the start line.
Very often in Wave 2, the market doesn’t even wait for the Kijun to move above the cloud before starting Wave 3. However, it’s also possible that after some ranging, the third wave becomes fully bullish.
That’s why, for traders who don’t have a proper understanding of Ichimoku proportions, this can lead to higher losses.

That’s why I set the rule that both Tenkan & Kijun must be above or below the Kumo cloud for at least 9 candles, so they don’t get trapped in ranging conditions.
If Ichimoku proportions are already clear to some traders, they may choose not to strictly apply this rule.

It feels simple to you bc you’ve mastered it ,my good friend. For those who are new to Ichimoku, these concepts can seem unclear & complicated.
that’s why I mentioned at the beginning of the thread that if you observe how the components form directly on the chart, the whole concept becomes much, much simpler.
unfortunately, it feels difficult mainly because the basic concepts and building blocks of Ichimoku haven’t been properly understood yet.
When the understanding isn’t solid & correct, a few consecutive losing trades can completely throw mental control & money management out the window. You’ve developed trust in your trading system, so when a mistake happens, it doesn’t shake you.
can personally grasp everything I’ve explained so far at a glance, that’s exactly what expertise is.
For beginners, everything is still unclear & confusing.

My good friend, regarding your p message asking which Tenkan close to consider: once the close occurs, your entry remains valid until a new high is fully closed above.
Ichimoku is all about the average between highs & lows. The current highs need to become invalid before the reference point changes.

1 trade today, Dow Futures 1 Hour TF, Long trade, +9%.

Ichimoku settings are personal and for this week SL is at 2%, TP this week is at 9%. All this is based on analysis of statistics over the last few weeks.
