Just to add my two cents.....

If you're not profitable in trading game after so long, that only means you are not LEARNING from the losses/mistakes and IMPROVING you're edge......

We are living in a golden age where everything is at our fingertips and nearly FREE to access...

There is no golden strategy or anything out there that gonna make you instant RICH as market are always evolving.......

Only things you need

1. Adapt to your Personality - understand n learn from past how you enter, close or do at certain situations when you are in a trade or opening a trade. Build a plan around it to fix the shortcomings.
2. For trading --> Simplest strategy is momentum. No indicators nothing just get bias from higher timeframes and then enter when there is momentum and get your share of the pie. Timing bottoms or highs are always tricky.
3. Most important SCREEN TIME -- That will give you golden experience that no books or anything can provide.
4. Lastly for money management - Always have SL ready before entering and remember ON GOOD DAYS DONT LIMIT YOURSELF SQUEEZE AS MUCH DOLLARS OUT OF THE MARKETS WHEREAS ON BAD DAYS HAVE SOMETHING PLACE TO STOP YOU FROM GOING FULL TILT.......... GREED IS GOOD

No, it doesn't. That is objectively wrong. This is like saying breathing increases your risk for cancer because people who get cancer also breathe. If anything, higher leverage decreases risk because you have more margin and less capital requirements.

The only thing that defines risk is trade size × trade frequency. Nothing else. "Risk management" is an empty term thrown around every forex space by posers that want other people to think they know what they're talking about.

I dont think you can know where price is going to go if you dont want to read a chart, when your at the screen, use your phone as well, set your price alerts to your phone, price alerts reduce screen time significantly and do your full analysis when your at the screen then go about your day, follow the fundamentals mark the news times, set time alarms on your phone if you have to, with your price alerts, this way your in the know, you know if price reaches here you will look to enter/exit or not, your know times when volatility will come in, you mark all these times and price levels then go on with your day your only get mild interruptions but you have opened up your whole day without staring at the charts all day. You dont have to sacrifice sleep and health for it, set a time in the day to shut off the markets, mute your phone and do your life stuff, get your sleep in, your vitamins etc. Cant get it perfect all the time but it helps. You should be able to read your strategy like you drive your car without much thought. Just need a 10 second look at candle closes or reactions at levels. This should help with the time issues you have

If you dont have an idea on whats happening you cant see much, its almost equivalent to a blind man trying to walk around the city hoping he doesnt fall in a hole. You cant control the market, you dont determine when and what time the market is going to feed you, the market does, the market is the boss and you are her worker. Sounds like you want the market to give you what you want at a certain time in a certain way with certain profits with minimal effort and some people reach that point but was it really minimal effort or did they just get really good at doing something difficult. I need to highlight this way of thought in your posts throughout the thread its not the best way of thinking and sounds limiting

If your looking for verified traders with a whole lot of other information, there are podcast on youtube im not sure your familiar with, you will see all the 7 and 8 figure verified traders you need to and there approaches to the market and what they went through, also research any successful person and read there stories, theres a lot of similarity's in successful people. Those traders and people will have some insights your currently not aware of that will change your whole perspective. I watched something on the crypto market the other day I thought I had the best idea on crypto and with 1 sentence my crypto views have now changed. I had a quick look at your charts and cant see much, I dont have the time to go through the pricebob strategy. Maybe show us your full thought process into a trade and a win/loss

Position sizing is a core element of risk management in trading.

"Risk" is subjective because risk perception is based on an individual's beliefs, experiences, values, and emotions, leading to different interpretations of the same situation. This means what one person considers a high-risk scenario, another might see as a minor threat, or even acceptable.

The answer to whether the use of higher or lower leverage means a higher financial risk or not depends on how it is used. Leverage itself isn’t bad, if you keep the position sizing disciplined. However, higher leverage tempts traders to over-size positions, which multiplies losses and risks margin calls.

Enough of that. There are already countless threads here discussing the use of leverage. This topic is intended to help find/demonstrate realistic ways and clear solutions for how a trader can manage to finance a living purely from their trading results.

I think it's always best to keep things objective. I've noticed already that your thread is turning into a melting pot of conflicting ideas, opinions and suggestions which honestly is one of the biggest issues with this industry. It's almost impossible not to get struck down with analysis paralysis.

The chap above 'FX-Blitz' mentioned something in the second part of his comment where he uses the analogy of a 'blind man', I completely disagree with him and prove what he's saying wrong day after day. You absolutely can pick a time window and find daily setups if you're using the right framework alongside solid context.

Ok so the Initial Balance and opening range are two separate entities for me, I use them both to help paint a narrative. I'm not using them in the typical breakout sense either, for me that's not sustainable or profitable long term. There are ways to build a solid system around them though when you incorporate other methodologies like I mentioned in my first comment.

Something I forgot to mention also is that I would suggest picking one asset and trading it exclusively. Which asset you pick depends on what time you're able to be at the charts, however I'd suggest going for an index or Gold. For me I trade Gold between 14:30-17:00 (UK time). I never have more than one position running at a time so no micro managing like you mentioned.

I'm here though when you want to dig a little deeper on the earlier points mentioned. Also not to 'poo poo' on other people's comments in here, but there's a lot of unhelpful noise already, lots of words with no actionable substance. Just my honest take.

One final thing too, I'd suggest avoiding any kind of signal service like the plague.

I think you can be proud of yourself and that you shouldn't be ashamed of the time it took you. Sure, completely understandable. I probably wouldn't either, even though I sometimes don't understand why successful traders see a problem with being as transparent about their success. Yes, a few traders have already told me that. Concepts like POC, VWAP, DOM, etc. I find it very difficult to use indicators without further context or a precise plan for how to bring them all together. I've tried numerous indicators in the past and haven't really been able to improve anything with them. I think if you use them in the wrong context—perhaps using the wrong settings, trading a possibly unsuitable market, reading the indicators incorrectly, and then combining that with incorrect risk and other management—this won't have a lasting, successful effect.

I see it that way too. The question is whether and how this will ultimately help me achieve the results I need. Without giving too much away, can you tell me what percentage of risk you take per trade relative to your trading account balance, and what is your profit target? And what do you do if you reach this target with, say, the first or both trades? Do you then continue trading as long as your strategy and the time you want to invest in trading per day allow? So, basically, just a limit on your potential daily losses, but no limit on your potential profits.

And do you trade several different markets or just one specific one that stays the same every day?

I don't have a manual trade journal, but otherwise, I agree with you. I'm currently testing an automatic/mechanical system based on the Opening Range Breakout idea. I've created a trade explorer for it, but currently, as it's running, it doesn't seem to be producing the results I need to be able to make a living from it, even though all possible backtests have shown that the system will likely be profitable in the long term. Perhaps I can optimize it somehow to achieve more stable minimum results over the period, as I'd hope. I don't know yet.

I get where you’re coming from. Honestly, I’ve thought about putting some of my work into a structured course before - but I’m not a salesman, and I don’t want to turn trading into a side hustle. The reality is, my system has taken years of trial and error, plus a lot of time and money building custom indicators and testing variations until it finally clicked. That’s not something I’d feel comfortable just handing out.

And while I agree with you that no retail trader is going to “move” a trillion-dollar market, systems can absolutely become diluted the more widely they’re used. You see it all the time with once-profitable approaches: the more traders pile in, the more front-running and fake-outs appear around the exact levels those systems depend on. It doesn’t take institutions changing their behaviour - just retail herding can distort the edge. A good example is the old London Breakout strategy - it worked brilliantly for years, but once everyone piled in, fake-outs and stop-runs became the norm. The edge wasn’t destroyed by institutions directly; it was eroded because retail behaviour became too predictable.

For me, I’d rather keep my head down, trade my plan, and share principles that can genuinely help others build their own edge without giving away the exact blueprint I use. That way, it’s still yours - shaped to fit your personality - and not just a copy of someone else’s work.

On your questions though:

  1. Risk per trade: I keep it tight - 0.5 - 1% max. That’s mainly because I trade with prop firms, and in that environment consistency scales much better than aggression. I also adjust dynamically: for example, if I’m risking 1% on an account with a 10% max drawdown and I hit - 4%, I’ll immediately cut my risk to 0.5% until I’ve recovered a cushion. Once I’m back +2% off that low, I’ll step back up to 1%. It’s a simple way of protecting the account while still giving myself room to compound when things are going well.

  1. Profit targets: The majority of my trades end up between 1R - 2R, and that’s intentional. I focus on the 'low hanging fruit', the clean repeatable moves that the market has already shown in the very recent past (Think very recent highs/lows or u & n shaped targets as I like to call them). Whenever I’ve tried to stretch for bigger R multiples, my performance has taken a hit, because it forces me into prediction mode rather than execution mode. I’m not trying to forecast how far Gold or NASDAQ will run - I’m just taking my piece where the market has already proven it’s willing to go.

  1. After a win: On most of my prop accounts, once I’ve hit target early in my session, I close business for the day. That way, I’m banking consistency and locking in profit regardless of what happens next. But I do keep one account running - this gives me the flexibility to keep trading when those rare days line up where 3–4 clean wins are possible. It’s a balance: I protect both mental and financial capital on the majority of accounts, while still leaving the door open to capture outsized days without letting greed creep into my core process.

  1. Markets: I focus almost exclusively on Gold during NY hours. That consistency has been huge for me - the personality of the market becomes second nature when you see the same flows day in, day out.

On your point about systems: ORB/IB breakout strategies can look fantastic in backtests, but the reality is that markets evolve. The breakout itself is only one piece of the puzzle - you need context (auction principles, higher-timeframe positioning, session flows). That’s why you’ve found it hard to translate theory into live, consistent results.

If I could give one piece of advice, it’s this: pick your time window, pick your market, cap your risk, and build a framework around repeatable behaviours. Strip away everything else. The fewer moving parts, the more clarity you’ll get.

Hi noisy!

With all respect, I think no one is able to give a proper proof that you can live off of trading solely but I do have a question for you .....
Can you get a garrentue from some university , institute or school who say that you will be making your bread 110% safely and Securely for long period of time without needing to upgrade yourself in future??

I think there isn't any thing like that right no one can give you a garrentue no matter how much you pay them or how much effort you put in any field....

And the thing is I am also not profitable BUT for a fact I know you can make bread out of it , actully if you put effort and time into anything you can make money off of it (if you don't have skill or money you can do gigs and make bread ) THERE IS GOLD EVERYWHERE IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO LOOK but i think the problem is that people like you and me have glorified trading in a way that if you are trading you have to make 5-6k a month or otherwise you are a losser ...for me trading is a side quest ...but we have to realise the difference bettween "Can you Make money From trading" and " TRADING FOR living" I think they are 2 diffrent things which come after another ...first you have to make money off of trading while doing something else like doing shit jobs or anything after you can make some money than you can make LIVING FROM TRADING But you don't have too actually day trade everyday you can trade some days and make profit while your current job is paying you and keeping you alive and invest the profits that you make from trading in a way that you can get your monthly expensis get coverd and and you can leave the jobs and either do trading or just live off the profits from the invested income ....

What does momentum mean to you and how do you identify it, and more importantly, what do you do if you don't have the whole day of time available to look for a suitable trade entry based on your criteria?

I spent almost 8-10 hours a day for a full year focusing on one market (GBP/USD) doing what you described (no day off). The experience gained doing so is the same experience I had before. Price goes up, price goes down, price goes sideways.

The only thing I’ve gained from this „experience“ is that my eyes and mental condition got even worth. If I’d like to spent an infinite amount of time on things looking at a computer screen all day long, I would try to find a job again in IT. I did exactly that as a full time employee for 5 years and 15 years working for myself.

My personal goals from trading are:

A) spend as less time possible to make X minimum income to support my current lifestyle (or even better)
B) build enough capital to keep the same lifestyle once old and in retirement.
C) Have freedom and peace (not more problems as I already have and spending more time in front of a screen as I already do)

Yeah you can do that with what I've shown you - but it involves TA of a sort as its easier to see on a chart - happens like clockwork every single day on a least 3 out 5 markets, but the holy grail is being in a position in the direction that price moves in, you just need to figure out a method to achieve that

What I wanted was a method that had a very high win rate and showed up multiple times a week - once you know the numbers you know all the stats you need and then all you do is set an alarm for when it "shows up" and trade it, which is completely mechanical, because those stats show the probabilities and the expectancy of the method

I'm not convincing you my method is the one as I'm not even going to reveal it - what I've shown you is to try to get you to see what is going on in the game - The game is against traders from the off, that means you HAVE to base your method on the laws of probability to stand a chance of winning

Jake Bernstein of WWW.SEASONALTRADER.COM sells stats which show you the probabilities of a market doing certain things per day/week/month/year etc

PS - I do NOT subscribe to Jakes method - my method is NOT like Jakes - Jake is another person who can see the cycles in the markets

Anyway good luck - just remember 95% of traders fail, because they don't do things properly - Trading is a boring robotic game, based on probabilities

There are quite a few options traders I know who "trade for a living", in that their returns are enough to live on. If you go to Reddit and look at the /Optionswheel sub, there are traders posting their results, and many claim to reliably make 20% or better annually trading "the Wheel". I personally know a couple traders doing the Wheel and their results are similar. So, I guess if you wanted to trade the Wheel from a $500k account, that'd be the minimum needed to have an after-tax income sufficient to live on in most "developed" countries.

I'm not a fan of the Wheel, I don't want to own stocks, generally, but I do own dividend stocks, and I do Wheel strategies on some of those. The Wheel works well in bull markets, but, so does just buy/hold on growth stocks. I just mention the Wheel because it is a relatively conservative approach to options trading that people get into without years of experience and do ok with, and it's well documented. You can also lose money trading the Wheel - there's no guarantee of profit.

Personally, I don't "trade for a living" because I work for a living. Rather, I trade options for income that I can use to invest in bonds, bond funds, and dividend stocks. When I have the latter stack paying something like 6-10% annually, a $1million stake would be enough to live on, for me. I think I will get there, before I die lol.

Returns for options traders generally are all over the map, just like for fx traders. In the last 10 years, I have had +300% years, and I have had +0% years, and at worst I have lost 40% in a year. I can trust myself to get around 40-50% return in an average year. But, since I'm trading with a small fraction of my net worth, even that is not enough "to live on."

My advice to people who want to trade for a living is: forget about it. Get a career or a job doing something you like, make and save money, and use a conservative fraction of what you have earned to trade. The vast majority of people who try to trade for a living fail. Having the pressure of deriving all of their living from trading usually means traders will be too risky and excessive risk catches even competent traders eventually. Besides, trading is a trivial game that does nothing for your soul, offers nothing to the World, and, as a "profession" is populated by sumbags and fuckups, just like "professional" gambling. Do something real instead.

Price goes up, price goes down, price goes sideways. The only thing I’ve gained from this „experience“ is that my eyes and mental condition got even worth....
Now you are comparing the hard work done by Donkey or Horse.

My question is as you have mentioned you have been constantly tracking charts for 8-10h a day then you must be proficient with how the pair behaves at different times, news or any other factors? Have you actually been learning from the moves?? Can you predict what the price will do in similar situations??

Yes price goes up and down --> its not that simple as there is alot of fake moves before the real move....

Lastly i am not a coach who can teach you how things done.

I am gonna take a different approach to explain -

--> There is Messi way of doing things. That is you're already gifted and with a decent practise you become Champion.
--> There is Ronaldo way of doing things. Pure hard + smart work with consistensy to achieve the same result.

Most of us fall into Ronaldo way. So there is no one out there who gonna spoon feed you to success. First change you're mindset to GO GET IT (50% battle won). STart analyzing what good others are doing and implement based on your personality. Not just trading i mean any aspect of life.

Life is Brutal and not fair at most times. But who keeps on going with proper planning and consistency will get it....

I was in similar situation like you 2 years back when i was new to prop firms lost alot of money. I am an IT professional as well doing trading as a side hustle. Yes i have a plan that works for me which i polished over the span of 2 years while doing a full time JOB. If i can do it anyone can do it.

Yes, the wheels strategy. But as you already said, it seems very capital-intensive if you want to generate any significant income from it, and probably not something you can do with a prop trading firm, even if it might otherwise be a legitimate and profitable strategy, so it’s no solution for me either.

A quick observation Ive seen this through many people Ive come across and I think its why aunt and uncle and bobjim down the road call you out for bs and no matter what u say they simply just cant see your ideas because they are locked into years of there own programming, we want resonance and similarity, imagine somebody watching a car race and u say to them look theres a truck and they are like no theres only cars, you see the truck in the background its so obvious and a lot of others see it, but they cant all they see is cars, probably a bad example but - Reminding me of the law of resonance, this is a part from A.i -

Otherwise, you're right. I would prefer to have a very objective, rule-based trading approach that is repeatable and doesn’t require me to sit in front of charts all day long.
