DislikedIt looks like the subprime problem is not going away as two Bear Sterns hedge funds that were exposed to the subprime market are in serious trouble.
This may just be the catalyst for a move similar to Feb/Mar this year... The strength of the move is still to be determined as the fates of those hedge funds are decided in some far away boardroom, and its effects on the consumer and the rest of the world economy are gauged... but to those of you who don't pay any attention to the fundamentals, this would be a good time to start.

DislikedIt may be too early to declare the end of the sell-off, but with 30 min. of trading left on Wall St. and Dow up by almost 200 pts. we are likely seeing a consolidation ahead of FOMC rate decision.
What does this mean?
Barring any further imminent disasters with regards to US subprime spilling over into the average consumer's living room, we are only likely to see some concern on Fed faces and a possible hint at a rate cut in the coming months (although the Fed has already warned the market about further subprime losses). A rate cut under these circumstances is not necessarily USD/JPY negative in the longer term however, as lower rates may sweeten the deal for investors who currently have a very sour taste in their mouths on credit worries, causing higher demand for USD assets.
So, although a hints at a coming rate cut could cause an initial knee-jerk reaction from the speculative community, it would actually be a breath of fresh air for the stagnating economy and a good buying opportunity for USD. Let's see how it unfolds.Ignored
