To determine if the market is trending or ranging, use trend indicators like moving averages and trendlines, along with tools like RSI or Bollinger Bands to spot overbought/oversold conditions or consolidation. Monitoring price action and volume can also help confirm the market's direction.

Patterns like double top/bottom, triple top, corrective Elliott wave counts, triangles and many more (can't name them all) are the best ways to determine a trend.

When a trend is recovering from a drop or is fading from highs then its the best time to look out for these patterns.

Better study about patterns and then you can choose what to trade best.

Check price action with support, resistance, and moving averages—range or trend will reveal itself

Those are some solid tools! I have been using Bollinger Bands and Moving Averages but never used Hurst Exponent. I will look it up now!

One method I like is using "Market Structure" or "Price Action" tools. When the market shows signs of direction change, small support or resistance breakouts can signal trend or range. For instance, a break of support could lead to higher prices, while a resistance break might suggest a ranging market.

In addition to the Hurst Exponent, you can use indicators like ATR, which helps assess volatility; moving averages, to identify trend direction; DMI with ADX, to measure trend strength; Bollinger Bands, to spot market volatility; RSI for overbought/oversold conditions; Ichimoku Cloud for trend analysis; Fractal Dimension for market complexity; MACD to confirm trends; and price action patterns like Doji or Engulfing for market behavior. Combining these indicators gives a clearer view of whether a pair is trending or ranging.

Besides Hurst Exponent, try ADX (above 25 = trend, below 20 = range), Bollinger Bands (narrowing = range, widening = trend), or RSI (flat near 50 = range). Moving Average slope and price clustering near support/resistance also help.

I'd say the same, generally, about moving averages, too - not just ADX.

1. Are you sure that thing about a specified timeframe only? I'm pretty sure if price goes up on one timeframe, it goes up for all timeframes; then what I do is specify those timeframes, easy!

2. An indicator such as this can give an early warning of which pairs should be eyeballed right now! No need to remember or write down pairs of interest, not a signal, just a helper.
