where did you guys learned to read the tape and trade? im 4 years persuing to be a trader, but not seeing much improvement, appreciate it

Hi yeezey

First of all you need to trade Future’s or Stocks to even see a tape (DOM or Time & Sales) so that is where you start.
I learned basic tape reading skills years ago trading Australian Equities but it wasn’t till I started trading Future’s on Jigsaw that I was able to get a better feel for it.
For 1 year, I traded ES (US500 Futures) only with just a DOM, volume profile and a 5 second tick chart where I would watch every tick for over 4 hours. Here I was learning to trade Tick rejections, sweeps, incomplete auctions, liquidity claims, spoofing, HFT manipulation etc to gain a trading edge over other market participants.

The idea is we are attempting to identify whether a move is being created due to order manipulation or actual big player intent.

These days I study closely on ES, Oil, Gold, EU Future’s to see whether the order size that is hitting the DOM is being accepted and moving price or is it being rejected in the form of a back tick.

So I trade my setups like Sqeeze breakouts, VCP Patterns, Liquidity Claims, pullback Patterns then look to trade with the aid of a DOM to see when a move has volume intend from many other trading participants or if it’s from Algo HFT programs.

This NASDAQ trade is dedicated to RickM for bringing me back to trade ENQ futures.

Although there is no Volume involved whatsoever and no Liquidity Claims , this dedication is True and Valid.

Above EMA 21, 5 Min Nasdaq Futures, Will be TP(ing) very very soon....and out + 2% .

I would like to expand a bit on how I traded this PA and my thought process as it relates to this thread.

1. PA moved above EMA 21
2. Retracement during the squeeze (and white dots prior)
3. Strong push up
4. Most of the traders who place their stop loss under the Swing were taken out of this trade. Do not do this, leave some room for PA to breeze(hint - use proper position size).

Components

The indicator calculates a total squeeze intensity score based on four components:

  3. Volume Intensity (0-20 points): Analyzes volume patterns and thresholds

Hi Kalimac

I wouldn't now mainly because price action shows 3 failed bullish moves.
Now we would have to wait for a break of the last major high - so wait to see if this occurs.
My guess is these candles are forming during a low liquidity period so there is no Bullish intent.

I won't discourage your effort, as I've coded couple of scripts around the squeeze myself, which is not an easy task. If you wait for all the confirmations for the signal, then you are likely late to the party all the time, consequently your are shorting the bottom or buying the top. The current version would be more useful to confirm where to exit the position.

Just a hint where you should focus more of your time, try to code/test rules where the entry is the most convenient to catch the move. Simple question with a hard answer, how can you define the situation where the impulsive move begins?

Read his post again. Cog has made a script based on things discussed in this thread. If you think focus is not correct, then talk to Machine and Rick. Just a hint.

Hi abuisiam

The idea here is we are looking for markets that are in ranging conditions, then hope to time our trades when the market breaks actually out into trending conditions soon after. The A+ trade is the breakout that occurs on a lower time frame market that has a bias that follows the higher time frame trend.

This was one of my best trades from last year. Price was trending on the BTC Day chart and I waited for the breakout on the BTC 1 hour time frame to trade.
With Forex Markets, I look for trending Day charts first and hunt for breakouts on the 1 hour chart thereafter.

I have learned successful traders Buy when the market is very strong with support under price and Sell when the market is very weak with support above price.
Most traders want to do the opposite by Selling high or Buying low and that is why many of them lose (They may win 4 in a row but the 5th trade destroys them).
The Squeeze indicator alerts us to nice setups if we aren't paying attention. It's our job to establish whether its a A+. B or C setup.

So you need to know the trend.

I don't know if this has a value for some of the MT4 traders, but let me share it. I made my own Multi Timeframe MT4 Ribbon indicator. You can define the EMA's you want. Only three though and Machine define four in post #1.

So using this indicator you can watch if the EMA's are aligned nicely in higher timeframes.

You can define three colours.
AColour: The arrow get this colour if the MA is trending AND the very last data is still trending.
BColour: The arrow get this colour if the MA is trending BUT the last closed bar goes in the other direction than the trend.
NoColour: The EMA's are cluttered - no aligment - not tradeable.

Standard colours are White, Yellow and Red. (Changeable).

The red colour is used in case of the cluttered picture. In this case there will be a dot in stead of an arrow.

Please understand that this is a quickie. You cannot move the indicator to other locations in this version.and there might be other smart features it does not have.

Never trade based only on the indicator. You MUST make your own top/down analysis. It is ment as a help, not a trading signal.

Let me know if you find errors.

Attached an example of the situation on timeframe M5, where the situation is cluttered and the indicator shows a dot.

Don't mind the background colours. My robots are set to paint a colour that show the trend in the current timeframe. Useable if you are batch trading. But that is another story.
