What is a trend and what makes it continue? News, Supply/demand, Astronomical or other cycles....

Agreed. I don't buy into the lunar cycle, fib number, Elliot wave counts, astrology, Murray Math, Gann numbers, etc. The trend is determined both by economic factors (such as interest rates, money flow, trade flow, etc.) and the general psychology of all traders. Since it is difficult to quantify and calculate the latter, it is nearly impossible to predict the market.

As for a technical description of a trend, I like the simple definition provided by Alexander Elder and Martin Pring: an uptrend is rising peaks and rising troughs (higher highs and higher lows) and a downtrend is lowering peaks and lowering troughs (lower highs and lower lows). Trend change can not be confirmed until you have both the peaks and troughs changing direction.
