This was smart, but the timing is a bit off. I think this is our down week. If I am correct my advice to you is to add another buy if we turn Bullish again. In that way your current hedge will stop the bleeding, and the new trade will cover your swap fees. Or.. close the buy hedge.. wait for a retracement then buy one to cover your bad trade, and another to cover overhead. Wait for the second to be in SIGNIFICANT profit before you look for more retracements to add on. Do not panic though. The minute you panic your trading will go to shit. There is a way out.. you can do it.

I really hope you headed my advice and dropped that long hedge to wait for a dip.
One thing about trading to remember. When it feels like all hope is lost. The market is probably about to turn. They do this so that people close losing trades, and is a well documented practice.

UJ is currently at the 1hr Higher low off of the move up we just had. This is more of a 4th wave than it is a turn around. For now. For an instrument to be bearish in my book it needs to take out TWO of the previous higher lows. Even if we count the blue one. This move is yet to be bearish on the higher frames. Lets see what the FED's speech does.

Similar to the correlation between other countries and the Japanese yen, even if the interest rate differential narrows, the US dollar will appreciate more than the Japanese yen, which has lower interest rates and a negative quarterly GDP.

Long Gold
2025 target Wave 4 on higher timeframes appears done.

I was hoping to buy lower, but will just buy smaller instead to limit risk. Had I entered on time SL would be in to limit risk.

Unfortunately, the Japanese yen has no value because there are no interest rates, prices are rising, and wages have not increased for 30 years. The world should recognize this reality.

"if we turn bullish again" is completely different from one trade to another...
And Let's be honest. Hedging one position is just like closing it. Buying again would just be buying. All the rest, technically, makes no technical sense. Maybe blinded by the loss if closed? A trader has to come to term with regular loses. It's just part of it. I myself take 100s of losses every day. You've treated your short like if it was a carry trade which it clearly can't be with neg. swaps and uptrend, and unless you had holdings bringing you interest to cover that negative swap all that time, your mistake was even greater. You've made a mistake by holding without knowing so long and without knowing why(as you stated above) and, in my opinion, the earlier one acts upon his mistake, one can truly accept it, and can move on at last.

I find it interesting that as traders we are all taught this lesson. "Take the loss". Everyone says it is part of the game. Everyone that is except the big guys making money. The Banks hedge. Hedge funds also hedge, and they watch their margins. Even Warren Buffet says that you do not lose money until you close the trade. So why are all the teachers at our level encouraging stop losses, and the closing of trades. Some brokers won't even allow opposing trades. The more money you have it seems the less you are encouraged to "let go". I work in a hedge fund. As IT mind you, but i see these guys hedge losing bets all the time. I get what you are saying, but nah. Especially as price is in a range and your price just comes back, and especially in this case where he is so deep into the trade. Perhaps at a 50 pip loss close and move on. 500? Nah. Seal up the doors and come back with bigger weapons.
In the end though we have to live in our comfort zone. You don't like stress I would bet. Me. I live in it lol.

Warren Buffet is a value investor, not a forex intraday or swing trader. knowing the differences between the two answers your question.
You work at an hedge fund, so you know that many "big guys" take losses all the time. It is part of trading.
I never pretended to be a teacher or encouraging stop losses or closing of a position.
I shared my humble view, based on my experience, and on what Tradder was specifically sharing, which, for me, has nothing to do with your thoughts above, misinterpretations about my message which was specifically written with Tradder's situation in mind.

Because Tradder asked, I merely expressed my view on his position holding, and hedging it, which makes no sense in the context of his lack of understanding...

Cheers and thank you for your thoughts on the matter, especially when it includes my favourite investor(his biography around 20 years ago got me into trading !)!

Easy budy. Are we really at a level that differences of opinions are insulting? Perhaps it is the language barrier. "I find it funny" is an all encompassing phrase meaning someone finds something odd. You responded not to his message, but to mine. To me you wished to have discourse. A different thought isn't a fist or put down people. Most are based on the information provided. Different information. Different products.

Please don't go the negative when interpreting my message, (still confused why you mention negative stuff in previous message"insulting,fist, put down etc., but I think we best leave it at that, because I agree with all of what you said, just not in the context of a reply to my message, like you did)
