What does it take to become a successful trader?


If you are new to trading the currency markets:

- How are you obtaining your education?
- Did you know that an education was necessary, and that you could successfully educate yourself, on your way to becoming a consistently profitable trader?
- Are you waiting for a thread to come along, complete with perfect trade signals embedded in each post, such that no learning curve is necessary and thus, no effort in obtaining an education is necessary?
- Do you think that arguing about trading, or what it takes to become successful at trading, is somehow going to help you attain your goals? ( that's in previous thread I follow, now I've abandon it).
- Why do you spend your time on this particular Forex Forum, as opposed to some of the others?
- Does this, or any other Forex Forum, provide you with what you need to reach your goals as a new currency trader?

I'm asking these questions because I'm curious, and concerned that 95% of you are going to fail, if you don't do something different than what the previous 95% did before you.

Is this forum really working for you?
Are you learning much here?
Have you even asked yourself those questions?

Hi Pat Chico, I can see your passion in trading and in sharing your knowledge and experience to fellow traders especially newbies. But I see you in every thread. It is scattered and hard for noobs to follow. I suggest that you make your own thread so learners can easily follow and can start from the beginning. Make it an interaction forum where you can post trades while while sharing you understanding of the market. Looking forward to that "future" best thread here in ff.. I appreciate your contributions and passion.

We are all in FF only for the reason that it provides food for thought for those coming through.

Most will not find what they need here, but it might plant something in the subconsciousness they use later.

Great question. I think it is like many other things in life: Hard work, discipline and experience.
1. Hard work: A person cannot be lazy and expect everything to just come to them. You must pursue whatever you wish to accomplish with effort. Opportunity rewards the diligent. I like to say that life is 10% how you make it and 90% how you take it. I tell my children that they have to prepare themselves for opportunity. It is a terrible thing for opportunity to knock when you are asleep and too lazy to answer the door.

2. Discipline: Many people see discipline as restrictive. I firmly believe that discipline is freeing. When a person exercises discipline in their life, they enable themselves to accomplish things they would otherwise be unable to accomplish. I see discipline as guardrails on the road of life. When you lose control, your discipline will keep you from going off the cliff.

3. Experience: This is essential. Book learning will only get you so far. Experience is the purest and truest teacher. Experience alone is not enough. You must learn from your experience. Without the learning, experience is relatively useless. I find the best way to learn from experience is through reflection. It is important to think about an experience free from the emotional inputs that were present at the time of the experience, so you can objectively evaluate what went right and what went wrong and then formulate disciplines that can protect you in that situation.

I am of the opinion that the benefit of this forum is to fulfill that last point, though it can have impact in the first two as well.

Hello Mr Bull Bear.

Its nice to see you drop by here.

I don't own this joint, just a temporary shelter than I can share my trades set up and knowledge for other passionate enough to learn something.

I hope one day to open a thread. But I resist because I may have to kick few poster for not following the rules.

With this forum, I'm unable to kick them and vice versa.

Therefore it is natural ground for all "mano-o mano".

I like this new home coz it is a very small group and not like this particular forum has taken on an occult-like tone that strikes me as a bit like an ambush style.

On the other forum, the argument is that people like to come there to argue amongst each other from subject like country, covid, young vs old age and all, but not real discussion about trading set up.

At the root of any trading forum concerning itself with helping traders, you should find people consistently making better trades.

If that's not happening there - then what are you really learning there? I mean, really learning?

That's why I migrated to this forum.

I have learnt so much from your past trades, Sang real notes, Assange trades,etc. I never followed or copied your trades. I just wanted to come up with my own thought process behind why you took trades. And now I have a strategy that I consistently utilize which is based on your whipsaw engulf retest. I dont use Support and resistance like you do but I always look for those whipsaw engulfing, QM trades. I also learnt a lot of money management from your trades. I divide my position into 4 parts 2 aggressive entries and two conservative entries while before I used to take alll positions into once. I only come here so I can match if you took the same trades as I did. I am not scared to trade against you. If I fail and you succeed in your trades then I try to analyze what I did wrong. So yess I have learnt a lot lott more than you think. Not only you from traders like stevepatt, mysterio, MTFtest, bionics, etc I have taken something from most of these traders but come up with my own independent thinking process as well.
