Clearly, we take a long position & want prices to go up afterward, and when we take a short position, we want prices to go down afterward.

Only in this way will your trade be profitable.

But when we enter our trade, does trading logic include any consideration of the basic reason why prices move at all ... that of the balance between supply and demand?

Really think about it!

I know this is very, very basic aspect of the market, indeed, the only real driving force behind price activity, but I seldom see it mentioned by those who describe their trading systems.

It stands to reason that if our trade has any chance of being profitable, we must enter it where the imbalance of supply and demand is in favor of our trade (supply exceeding demand for shorts, demand exceeding supply for longs).

Even if we subscribe to the conspiracy theories of "price manipulation by the big-boys" or "stop-hunting," the movement of price from one level to another can only exist if supply and demand are not in balance at the original level.

Knowing this, our goal as technical analysts is simple:

Use tools which help to indicate at which price-levels supply and demand are most out of balance, because it is only at these levels where prices will most likely move in a direction favorable to our trades.

This should be the main purpose behind using any technical indicator, whether mathematically derived from price, paterns/lines drawn on a chart, or price-action itself.

Such indicators "work" only when they're able to accurately indicate where supply and demand are out of balance in a direction favorable to your trade.

BTW, I only trade with naked chart with Support & Resisitance.

That is the pure way one should trade the imbalance which moves the price, but some times it is difficult to measure which side is the imbalance and some it is on both the sides for AU, it was in a downtrend and it came back to fill the daily imbalance, now it is stuck in the breaker, i dont know where it will go, imbalance on ltf will decide and i have to react that's is what i have understood so far and you are already excellent without imbalances just on naked chart, that is a rare skill you are blessed with.
