Ever heard of trendlines that only use 1 price action pivot/swing point of contact..??

Its a form of gann square which uses actual mkt swings to draw the t/lines.
( An old timer shared this with me... a few yrs ago.)

I use this simple technique as a confirming tool.... (Not sure if its strong enuf to stand on its own..?? )

Just sharing , to show that one can be creative with the use of any particular tool.

Time becomes Price and conversely.

Swede should be a much better interlocutor than me on this topic

@Dave.......regarding the overextension of the ADR. The best way to trade it is to move to the envelope chart, 5min I have found to be the best. The outer 256 parameters must be breached, and only enter on the Heiken colour change after several attempts to reach further outbound. (If it’s a temporary news spike best to sideline unless a couple attempts to continue and fail). I trade these breaches regularly because I trade the NY/London crossover because of my living in western Canada and its when I’m at my desk the most and my time period lends itself to reversals after the push created by London volume. It’s probably the same time your thinking of putting your feet up and watching a match...

Often overlooked but very powerful when you master the technique which is very simple....use your circle tool to measure a horizontal time trend line....then you can easily draw a vertical trend line the exact same distance as the time trendline. Then move it to the bottom( or top) of the start of a reversal and you have a very accurate area to watch for a continuation etc . I have found it works really well on AudUsd on the 15 min chart during the Asian session but really strong on Daily or 4 hour charts...

I don't think that Ichimoku applies to most markets. Not to mention that Ichimoku, and I believe, Japanese candlesticks were both brought to us third party. Those methods of interpreting markets were culture specific. You are a Frenchman, so your capacity for cross cultural exchange far exceeds mine, to us Yanks detriment I believe.

When I studied Ichi, I realized that the wave theory is critical. It is a lot like the fact that if a trader does not know how Gann calculated time cycles beyond the Natural Squares, they are going to make some serious mistakes. Not to mention that Gann himself needed PA to confirm his calls, and then there is that whole inversion business again. Gann used ten squares that I am aware of, he squared, price, range, and time. He used natural cycles, date of incorporation cycles, major high and low cycles, as well as heliocentric and geocentric cycles in astrology. Oh, and I forgot about the angles, which can be anchored from zero, a major high or low, and any astrological aspect, which would be four aspects over twelve houses. That is why I quit Gann the first time. I picked it back up again because I am now good with spreadsheets, and can boil a lot of his stuff down now.

My discovery has been that you can project enough turning prices and dates that one of them will come in. So, we are back to price action to confirm predictions. Why not just cut out the middle man and simply use PA?

Jmn5611, It is a very good summary of what Gann wrote, used , tested etc.

This way you confirm what I have several times written here : Gann was not a "genius". Gann was a guy like us who tested, experimented and at the end used many and various techniques, tools and methodologies. Tha's all.

As he sold them to customers against real dollars Gann could not choose between his tools, methodologies and techniques . That is as simple as that.

All the Gann techniques, tools, methodologies have not the same value and efficiencies.

If you use them at the same time (the confluence theory, more is better) you fell into confusion (See Chart)

IMHO You need to focus on 3 maximums tools, showing a real convergence. My 2 cents .

Otherwise you produce such a chart below . Hopefully for me Swede desintoxicated me after a lot of efforts. Thanks Swede

I found it interesting that broadly speaking you both gave the same reply
My assumption was, it was because you both trade the same Session and with luck we are approaching ADR
I trade the London Session so more often than not, its our job to build a range for you guys to reverse
I see no point in sitting in front of my screen at London Open to stare at the screen waiting for ADR to complete before dipping my toe into the water
Hence I need and have to use slightly different tactics

I agree & that last line rings true for me. Enough lines & one or two will be hit. When I first discovered Gann, my first thought after several hours of reading Gann material was why does he use so many techniques to trade?? Many years later its seems Gann used many ways thinking if one way fails, then another will surely work. Maybe that wrongs, but why else to focus on so many different methods. Oh maybe to keep everyone confused. Can't say much about the Ichimoku thingy as it never drew my interest. As I've said in the past the Gann Square of Nine I can understand, but to me for the most part it is a neat way of showing the Square Root Theory. Are the Square of Nine levels always hit? NO, but, they are enough times to have made it worth my time to use them for a period, but as one trader has said it is time consuming. To plot them by hand all over your chart takes time. The chart of Gann Square of Nine levels I posted several pages back shows how accurate it can be at times, but not always. That one clue I mention can give you a warning of what possibly could happen, but there are times that the 1st target will be hit, then PRICE turns in the other direction hitting one or two levels in that direction. Another clue is the PREVAILING TREND at the time of your trade. If the BUY ABOVE or THE SELL BELOW signal (whichever is going with the trend) is adhered to that somewhat puts the odds in your favor. NOT ALWAYS.

I will in the future try to refrain from discussing the Square of Nine any further as there seems little interest in the topic & once you have the correct setting on the Envelope indicators posted here you have all you need to be successful if you put in the time to learn. The excel file I use to calculate the Square of Nine does a great job of calculating the levels & can be found using our good friend google should anyone be interested.

Thank you Parisboy, Dave, Swede, jmn5611 & all others posting here for all you share with your methods of trading. We all have our own way of trading.

acey ou are welcome if you post here Gann Square of Nine (or other Squares) analysis. All what is technically related to Gann methodologies is stimulating.

As already told Gann Square of Nine is Time consuming . Hence as you consume your time it spares mine and that is good !

Cad at major support....may trade the bounce or wait and get on board short after a nice retrace...but on my radar for certain...(note the rejection at the big round number) Because support has been broken, I will wait for a retrace to take it short further...imho

Agree, but no matter when it happens its just one more tool, one more Alert to tell you its moved within or over its normal range...that never hurts even if your trading another method.....for example the Cad trade I talked about,,,,,,what kept me out of it was the fact Cad had not even come close to trading its normal range....so I waited and look what happened? In other words the lack of range kept me safe from entering a dumb counter trend trade....NOW it has the potential to bounce.....

Again I think your spot on with your thoughts and yes they are all, just tools, that we like to think gives us an edge
You have mentioned ADR again which I think is often overlooked but to me is a very powerful tool in its own right
All i have posted is that I have to watch and wait for range to expand in my session , and what I try to do to find trades
Your example is superb in the use of Range
Another thing I am mindful of is when is a Big Range day due , I suppose you could call it a Shake out day or even a Trap move day

What I like most about this thread is that I suspect we are all well over 50, our lives have been made. No one is trying to sell a course. We have all been in the markets for a very long time, and all students of the craft. It is very refreshing just to exchange ideas and share thoughts. No one is in a d^ck waving contest. Paris has been kind enough to dump a chunk of his library on us for simple discussion. Nice indeed.
