had to look...that was interesting.

order placed at London close, headed into start of year....most on holiday until after new years.

EDIT: also...i was told its best not to mix aquatic terms with trading ....so maybe dont call the trader a whale...could offend some or confuse them

EDIT: EU UK signed trade deal? I would like to know why splurge on EU long now also...I might want in lol

You guys are so funny!!! I've been trading full-time for 16 months now, but just joined FF a month ago as a member because I wanted to contribute to the threads.
A "whale" is a trader who invests a large enough amount of money to move the markets and make waves just from his orders. There is this 1 trader here on FF (EUR/USD) trading a whopping amount more than anybody else. I have been watching him for a while now. He's like a day trader and/or scalper. And the market usually goes the way he trades. So, if this "whale" has the confidence to "move" the market a certain way, then it's a high probability that it's gonna go that direction.
He had entered a big long earlier this morning at the dip after the 1.2295 spike last night, but never cashed out today, but instead entered another long at the dip a few hours ago. He must know something we don't. Other traders were expecting price to drop more the last 2 hours but it stopped unexpectedly at short term support TL, and "looked bullish". Well... Now you know why...

i looked at the time and it appeared that the trade wasn't made until 11am est...eaither way dont see them there anymore....plus 210 lots want move euro

That whale is indeed a scalper. You just gotta keep checking and catch it when he comes and goes. Don't trade against him. He'll rob you!

The 210 lots was 2 long trades. The first one was 130 lots earlier this morning at the first dip. Then he added another 80 about 3 hours ago. He only trades actively during London/New York session. But sometimes holds overnight.

long lots didn't go about 170 something until 11am est....euro price from 11am est didn't go up...only went down...so that whale may have ran into a pack of killer whales.....probally saw market moving up and jumped in....but looking at FF lives accounts and time of trades and lots sizes...seems they may have took a little loss

I jumped in when I noticed the extra 80 lots, made a bit, then jumped out when it started reversing again.
Hence my motto: Be content with small gains....

210k lots, not 2k. And yes, he manages to move the market instantly a few pips every time. Sometimes enough to get the algos to reverse the trend temporarily. It's an art, really.

can't argue with your motto...but be carful following 80 lots or 210 lots lol....hence my statement on becoming fish food lol. 210 lots want move euro let alone 80 lots even on the lowest volume day I would bet. But if that works for you...keep it up until it doesn't i guess

your risk reward maybe different most likely...among other things.

Sorry, no. It's not me. LOL
I just know because I pay attention and watch the lot sizes on EUR/USD here on FF. I only trade this pair to keep things simple.
But you don't have to believe me. I could be that whale, who knows??

Sorry, I misunderstood you. You meant 2,000 lots when I was talking about 210 lots. Even 2k lots wouldn't move the markets??!! Not even a little bit??!! Come on now!!!

LOL . True, if you calculate the $16 Trillion EUR GDP vs the $20 Trillion USD GDP, 2,000 lots would move the price precisely .16 pip. But market supply and demand works on a much tighter scale. With high market demand, price will spike more with longs than when there is plenty of market supply. Hence the ocean waves...

dont see how gpd plays in here....its basically a matter of order flow...


my broker had 7.5million orders at 1.22870 price alone.....if that puts it in perspective. Just my broker just that single price...you could up or down 0.00001 and volume would show millions of more orders....210 lots not a blip on the radar for the euro...

maybe think of it like this....for simplicity....lets say that 7.5 million orders i mention above for my broker alone was halved for buyers (half) and sellers (other half)...

that would mean half of that 7.5 million (3.75 million) is sellers waiting for someone to come buy....a "big whale" comes and buys all of those 3.75 million sell orders sitting at 1.22870....only then will the order flow move up to 1.22871.....

EDIT: to be fair you can divide it 4 times...if you want....1.87 million orders at price 1.22870....buying 210 lots want take all the available sellers at 1.22870 causing price to move up to 1.2287"1"......

i maybe confused but this is my understanding of the matter
