Programming in C++

Well I have finally decided to learn to program and I have been learning C++. At the rate I am learning I expect this endeavor to take me at least a year before I am able to translate ideas into code. My intent is to program my own trading, backtesting platform and robots according to my specifications. Any recommendations or ideas for me on anything would be much appreciated!
Do you consider to use a mixed of C++ and MT4 ? Doing this you will progress on both sides ! learning C++ ( slowly ) and enjoy EA from MT4 asap.

Your intention is good. C++ is an international programming passport. Whatever you plan to do in the future , having good C++ skills is a plus.

For me the best match is C++ and Java.

I think the topics starter's approach is better. C# is ok too of course. Using MQL puts you at a disadvantage if you plan to write a sophisticated Trading Bot. The code is hardly maintainable, the language has a lot of limits. It is possible to write somewhat clean code with it, but it does encourage spaghetti code in some ways. If you are serious about your trading tools, you should not use MQL to code your trading logic.

Time is a poor argument against using C++. I think patience is suitable no matter what you program. Rushing a project might be dangerous for your capital too.

First of all, sorry to give an answer only today. Actually, I was looking for an answer on another topic. Anyway, congratulation for you to step up and try to learn a new language. Nevertheless, MQL (4 or 5, but you should only learn MQL4 if you want to use MT4 or MQL5 if you use MT5 and there is a serious bit of difference between the 2) is prevailingly based on C language so you shouldn't bridge a C++ external module. If you would really want to do so, you can always have a look on the ZeroMQ project which has way more sense for bridging Python to MQL Python being a programming language specialized in Machine/Deep Learning, ie, Artificial Intelligence, to learn and recognize patterns. So if you're still willing to learn C++ with external modules, you should give a go to this ZeroMQ project.

Hello thjw, how can you include assembly (x86, x64, ARM, or whatever) language in a bit of MQL (4 or 5) code. I have looked at ZeroMQ project and I have quickly looked over the forums and Metaquotes documentation, and there are no such things.
