What do you all look for in a Broker?

The first thing that comes into the mind is that whether it is regulated or not. But there are many brokers who despite of unregulated provide best facilities as compared to that with the regulated brokers. Secondly the spreads and commission, protection against negative balance, security of funds and good service.

I look for a broker which offers stable and fast execution of orders during news releases. But few brokers can boast with acceptable conditions for news trading.

You're correct that there are quite a few brokers who provide top-class services even though they aren't regulated but there are plenty of others who are a scam. Regulation just keeps us on the safer side of things. Trading is a business already fraught with many risks.

Fourth, broker should have low spread and good customer support.

For me, how long have they been in the game? I was with GKFX once, one month then they suddenly closed all retail accounts, now they offer them again...avoid.

A broker is the most essential thing for any trader in forex market. There are so many broker in the market. Research properly before choosing your broker.

A 100% legal regulator (FCA), not Cysec or some islands in the middle of the ocean.

Reasonable spread and commissions
Good reviews, minimum 4 stars.

I generally look for tight spreads and low commissions. Sometimes, I also look for the customer service that is very important tho.

Hi guys I'm new here at the Forex Factory, I've been using this site for news releases for some time now but never participated in the forums.

So I've been trading for 12 years now and used a fair few brokers over my time. The first thing I look for in a broker is REGULATION, next i look at their reviews on trust pilot, followed by spreads and customer service. You also need to be careful of brokers that have slippage late in the day, if liquidity drops from the market late in the day then trades you plan on holding overnight could be at a higher risk of being stopped out.

I agree, first the regulation and then the reputation, followed by whether it fulfills your requirements - that's how it should be.

Speaking of offshore destinations, some of them, like St. Vincent and the Grenadines, are introducing more strict regulation for the companies registered there, likely because they're tired of being known for a congregation place of scammers of every sort.
That said, I would still pick a broker regulated and licensed by a reputable regulator, not in an offshore zone. It will take a long time for such places to develop a good reputation, even if they introduced the stricted regulation possible now.

A broker's prime responsibility is to bring sellers and buyers together and thus a broker is the third-person facilitator between a buyer and a seller. An example would be a real estate or stock broker who facilitates the sale of a property. Brokers can furnish market research and market data.

When I chose Fxview, all I had in mind was Strong regulation, tight spreads and low costs.

If you need to look for something in a reputable forex broker. First, the number of traders must be large and at least there must be a certain license or regulation that you consider to be safe.

Regulation is like insurance. The stronger the regulator the more chance of getting anything back if it all goes wrong. Always FCA in this case. But look into how your money is covered by the regulator. Do they refund you then persue the Co, or do they chase the Co on your behalf. The two are very different.

Most brokers are setup in the same way so will all be very similiar. Same pool of liquidity aggregators, same tech, etc.

Read reviews, open small live accounts and see how they treat you. Then when comfortable deposit more.
