Sometimes I wonder if there is a secret to highly successful trailing of stops. Trail too soon, you may get stopped out with little profit; trail too late, you may miss out on good price action momentum. As a swing trader, I am experimenting on a system of trailing my stops based on the number of candlesticks that have closed on the H4 or D1 tf. Once I reach my TP, I only close a portion of the position depending on risk apatite and add to position on pull backs within a few pips plus or minus BE. Not to give back more than a percentage of profit closed on position to that point. Its great if price never gets back to your BE level but I wouldn't adjust that BE level until price has cleared a certain level on a TF up preferable a multiple of 3 or better of my primary TF...made another cycle...
