Im baaaack! New entry: short USD/JPY just now

On daily chart, it seems to have completed a corrective 2-legged move and about to resume its decline

I am still short from last night. They spent way too much energy shaking shorts off for this to not be short in my opinion. Tried it again this morning with the US employment report spiking up. Would have taken out my SL if I had one in place.

really need some zen like patience on this pair these days, i feel like i still haven't figure out the risk-on/off behavior of it, doesn't feel as straightforward as other pairs/markets

It isn't. Remember the BOJ manipulates the Yen, so we have that to contend with. It makes for some nice volatility. These up moves have been very exciting.. which is why I don't trust them.

Perhaps X marks the spot? Needless to say the US market remains asleep on the USD/JPY. Seems to me they have all their trades in, and or are currently stacking them up during these "layovers". 15m Shows us tightening up, so maybe a breakout is coming..

Looks like a bullish flag though no? Maybe another trip north to rip out the new shorts? Ouch

1hr chart has a nice bearish flag with what looks like a nice path to 107.4. So 10 pips.

i have a short posisition and now it's floating ... i'll add more at 107.75

The Dow looks poised for a drop, and we are counter Dow right now. If that continues we could see a pop back to 107.8 area.


Vix is elevated which usually bodes badly for the Dow.

Ugh this US market. I guess the US brokers went on vacation already. It is after all July, and most of the big boys take two months starting in June.

I keep forgetting this, so let me post it. Might help my own memory of it. The Nasdaq reported new all time highs. If the S&P follows so will the Dow. I am of the impression when this occurs the Dow will drop, and move this pair.

Many find a complicated proposition in trading the Japanese yen against the U.S. dollar (USD/JPY). However, when the Japanese yen is understood in terms of U.S. Treasury bonds, notes, and bills, it should become less complex.
The main driver of this currency pair is not only Treasuries but interest rates in both Japan and the U.S. This means the pair is a measure of risk that determines when to buy or sell the USD/JPY in terms of interest rates. The direction of this pair can be determined by the direction of interest rates.

Furthermore, when interest rates are heading higher during the course of a trading day or are suspected to move up in the future, Treasury bond prices will go down. This lifts the U.S. dollar and, in turn, USD/JPY prices strengthen, and thus we can conclude that the market is in search of yields from Treasury trades and a lower USD/JPY price—making this a short position. Yields, defined as the rate of interest paid on a Treasury instrument, have an inverse relationship with bond prices. Therefore, when yields slump, a flight to liquidity occurs and this liquidity must find a home, which is where currencies can become attractive.

The USD/JPY pair can also be a determinant of market risk. For example, when markets are in search of risk trades, Treasury bond yields rise as interest rates fall. Yields are also a determinant of risk, as its inverse correlation to USD/JPY prices indicate a degree of volatility due to the market's ability to turn quickly when a panic occurs. In the case that panic or fear hits the markets, Treasury bond prices rise, yields fall, the price of the U.S. dollar goes down and the USD/JPY pair appreciates. This is due to the yen's status as the premier funding currency.
