Just one minor correction, there are profitable systems. Market has a rhythm. Just like a any good music, you just need to find a good dance move. Therefor what we need to do as traders is to find a way to key into the market's rhythm.

As a parting word to anybody who wishes to contact me about fx:

If you have an *amazing* idea or strategy that you want coded, there are plenty of other programmers who will work for a modest hourly rate, or possibly even for free (see post #1 for a list of possible candidates). Given my age and current health, time is much more important to me nowadays than money. Sorry, but I'm not open to any offers, big or small.

And unless you're a professor of econophysics, or an experienced and successful institutional trader, I'm not looking to expand my existing skype group of trading buddies.

If you're interested in my opinions on retail fx, for whatever they're worth, I've provided more than 200 links, also back in post #1.

As I said as recently as 3 posts ago, I'm not seeking any kind of gain, monetary or otherwise. I'm feeling jaded about fx in general, and I want to spend less time at the computer. And I have other projects that I want to pursue.

Hence (unless it's about something unrelated to fx) I'm afraid there's little point in getting in touch with me.

Hi hanover,
I remember you well from one of the old forums, either IBFX's or Oanda's or another few I have been on. I remember your early days when there weren't so many strategies and brokers and EAs n indicators around and I most likely engaged with you discussing the how to do anything with FX those days. I found you always very clever and helpful and inclusive in discussions as you had been earlier on this forum. I guess as you say, you have been through the cycle and done everything. Well, thanks for all you have done and it certainly is a pile of positive contributions which I hope will always stay around. I hope you remain in good health and I wish you the best and looking forward to having you back after your year long trip.

Why jaded? Reading your posts I get the impression you've met many traders that you consider successful.
Surely one of those can show the way. Which you could then automate, at least somewhat.

Neil, thanks for your response. I've posted here so as not to hijack Ill-b-back's thread any further.

Anyway, fwiw I agree with your comment that fx requires a huge personal commitment to research, trial-and-error, and hands-on experience.

About SSI (explained here for anybody who might be wondering), imho there's a catch-22 between sentiment and price. Certainly sentiment causes the orderflow that drives price (more here), but then technical traders analyze price, and their beliefs contribute to new sentiment, creating a chicken-and-egg cycle.

Apparently FXCM's SSI indicator is buyers divided by sellers, whereas the 'net volumes' and 'net positions' indicators that I generated from the myfxbook data is buyers minus sellers. I could easily add another timeseries that is a ratio rather than a difference. I'm not sure that it would be helpful, as you'd need a logarithmic scale to view the plot meaningfully, but I'm open to being persuaded otherwise.

There may be limits at which volumes reach full capacity, i.e. the market is exhausted of all potential buyers or sellers, but I'd guess that with fx this is difficult to gauge, because even central banks can potentially (and sometimes do) intervene, with the facilities that they have. I understand how some traders use COT data in a similar way, to find areas where the number of speculators is over-extended one way or the other, as a leading OB/OS indicator.

Btw, I find it odd that our mutual friend continues to imply that 'contrarian' trading is somehow your brainchild, when (no offence, of course) bucket shop brokers and institutional traders have been using it for many years.

It makes me laugh.. He is a nutjob.

Here we highlight some of the most prolific contrarian traders on Wall Street.

David Dreman. ...
Jim Rogers. ...
Sir John Templeton. ...
Warren Buffett. ...
George Soros. ...
Sam Zell. ...
Marc Faber.

Ok here is the link https://traderhq.com/profiling-wall-...ian-investors/

Without researching most of them I know at least three Billianaires there who are/where contrarian traders on wall street.
So no, I never invented it........ Take something in life that works. The seven traders up above do it. That's good enough for me. Take said method and find ways of making it better.

Find your own unique method/approach.

Great quote by Warren Buffet - “Be fearful when others are greedy, be greedy when others are fearful.”

Like you say small minds talk about people. He even reported me to the U.K FCA for insider trading.. Ive been waiting for them to get in touch with me for months LOL

Have a great day David and let us both try to stay of this forum LOL

Hanover,

Could you pretty please point me to the FX Vendor / Educator who is selling a script which open's orders at pre-defined Fibonacci levels, as mentioned by you in this thread from back in 2017?
Script to place pending orders at Fib levels?
Because I would like to buy that script.

My e-mail is: [email protected] , or you can send me a PM or post his website here?

I'm wondering if there is a script (or EA available that I may be able to get some ideas regarding the code here) that will place orders based on fib levels.

What I'm hoping for is something like this:

Draw the fibo and rename it to something unique so the script will trade solely based on the one I want it to
1 Unit @ 50 retracement
2 Unit @ 61.8 retracement
4 Units @ 78.6 retracement
Stop @ 100
Target on all @ 0

Does such a script exist or can someone give me an example of how to do this?
Ignored
I have a script that does exactly this, among other things, but I consider it too valuable to post here as freeware. I've sent you an e-mail.

Just attempted to use MetaEditor/compiler for build 509 and received 2 error messages: WinUser32.mqh - cannot open the program file, and stdlib.mqh - cannot open the program file. I know next to nothing about this kind of thing and would like some guidance here. Thanks

[Note: This replaces post #687, which is now out of date]

MetaEditor/compiler for build 509

Back in February 2014, MetaQuotes changed their MQL4 programming language in the move from build 509 to build 600. As a result, many old indicators and EAs (.MQ4 files) compile with errors in the latest MT4 builds. To make these work, you will need to either:
(a) persuade a programmer to recode them for you,
OR
(b) you can compile them yourself using MetaEditor/compiler build 509. To run this, all you need to do is:

1. Go to MT4, and choose menu option: File.....Open Data Folder......

2. Unzip the contents of the attached ZIP file into that folder. This should load all of the required files into the correct folders.

File Type: zip Build 509 compiler and MQH libraries.zip   2.9 MB | 312 downloads

3. Download your required indicator (.MQ4 file) into the ..../MQL4/Indicators folder, or your required EA (.MQ4 file) into the ..../MQL4/Experts folder.

4. Go back to folder ..../MQL4 and double click on metaeditor.exe (this runs the MetaEditor/compiler build 509).

5. Load the required indicator or EA (menu option: File....Open....) into MetaEditor, and then press F5 to compile it:

6. Assuming you get 0 errors (don't worry about any warnings), return to MT4, open the Navigator (press Ctrl-N), right click and choose 'Refresh':

The indicator or EA should now be sitting in the relevant tree ('Indicators' or 'Expert Advisors') ready to be attached/dragged onto your MT4 charts.

Repeat steps 3, 5 and 6 to compile any additional indicators or EAs.

Looks like post #687 is now out of date. Thanks for pointing this out. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I've updated the zip file with the latest mqh libraries. Try the instructions in post #1255 immediately above, and let me know if it fixes the problem.

[EDIT] sorry I misunderstood your question. By doing what I described, you aren't recompiling MT4, only a .mq4 file (indicator or EA). The current compiler also continues to exist, allowing you to compile new .mq4 files (i.e. those coded after build 600 arrived in Feb 2014).

 Compile 'old' .mq4 files using the build 509 compiler -> If an .ex4 file is created, the indicator or EA should run OK on the latest MT4 builds.

 Compile 'new' .mq4 files using the current compiler -> If an .ex4 file is created, the indicator or EA should run OK on the latest MT4 builds.

 Compile 'old' .mq4 files using the current compiler -> You will most likely get errors, and no .ex4 will be created.

 To convert an 'old' .mq4 file to a 'new' .mq4 file, it must be re-coded.

David, compilation process has yielded 5 errors of the same sort, no warnings: 'char'- parameter definition expected ...From what I have written here, does it look to you that I have followed procedure correctly?
