Tim Morge has spoken about this concept of separation. I hope I can do it justice. The first chart is an overall picture. The second chart is zoomed in and shows a red modified schiff with price testing the upper median line. The pink arrow shows the first bar of pivot C. The red arrow shows a hard up bar testing the upper median line but closing near it's high. Since this bar closes on its high it is not a good bar to consider shorting the upper median line.
