Of course nothing personal Rennnaissance - the market does not care who or what you are or how much money you've lost. They are merciless!

But as I said there are times when this is not so much stop hunting/liquidity hunting taking place. Also there are trading pairs which move very slowly and are less volatile so losing 5 pips (for instance) can take an hour! USDJPY and EURGBP are good examples. Many people only trade less volatile pairs. EU and GU are not good pairs to trade for this very reason (all IMHO)

USDJPY is sometimes a very volatile pair. EURGBP, Yes, moving slowly.

I am sorry, but I seem to disagree with your contention about the speed on the tick chart MAYBE a factor which can be used to determine if a currency is reversing or not. When a person looks back at a reversal which leads to what we know as a cup and handle formation or an inverted one, all stems from a top or bottom being created. When we look at the tops and bottoms created, we will notice that bottom, of a move down, can occur qith a cat bounce or a slow move upward which might take hours to make the 100% correction.

A good way to trade is to slowly try to accumulate rather then over-leverage and attempt to make a big killing which normally fails. Protecting your account is PARAMOUNT! Then you can live to fight another day and there are always lots of opportunities.

When the trend is strong and price seems to be moving fast, move right down to the M5/M1 chart and look for minor retracements to open a trade with the move - never against it!!

When the trend is slow or price action seems to be going nowhere, move up to H1 or H4. Trading lower time frames will cause you to lose money

Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Of course here you are ONLY looking to trade short/sell!! Good to use ema's which help to show the trend clearly and highlight possible entry points. You need to have your currency heat map always open so that you can see strong/weak currencies clearly which makes sure you're not wasting time on the wrong currencies!

jmtini I sure get your point but UJ is not the best pair to trade since the last 10 days ATR is only 53 pips. For me the best pair to trade is the USDDKK since it's trending most of the time. The last 10 days ATR for USDDKK was 338 pips but so far today the ATR is 674 pips. The bigger the ATR the more chances of winning there are but also, if someone doesn't trade properly, the more chances there are of losing money.

Sorry I didn't know you were also "cassandra"

Anyway we were discussing slower moving pairs with low ATR which if one trades, one is far less likely to lose a lot of money on a losing trade which is what this thread is all about. You made the point exactly - trading a pair like USDDK which I presume moves very fast (I have never traded the pair - the spread is huge?) is probably very dangerous for new/inexperienced traders.

Many small traders forget about spread, commission and "algorithmic slippage" on Mt4 that always occurs when one opens a trade. So one can be 5/6 pips or more in the red before you even start. If price abruptly starts moving in the opposite direction as often happens, you're a nice lot of bucks down before you can say abracadabra!

How do you reckon that there are more chances of winning with a higher ATR? I have seen people trading within ranges of less than 30 pips and winning more than they lose. A pair like UJ can have a small range of 53 pips, but the price action might have been much easier to trade compared to a currency which gainned 120 pips in a day but took 24 hours to do it and did it slowly. The trend isnīt always your friend and when you get stuck in those USDDKK pairs and are on the wrong side, you might never get out because you can easily go 500 pips in red.

I realized that the worst thing about trading is excitement. When you lose money, but you think you will win anyway. If the trade does not go, it is better to do something else and get back to it later. Also, don't need to think that you wont make a mistake. Anything can happen and you need to be ready for it.

Excellent point. The sad part is that you then personalize your trade. You would then have to wait and see if the trade will end up on your side compared to having traded a set plan and knowing exactly where your limits are.

The main reason that causes most forex traders lose money is due to a lack of self-control, tend to be subjective and exaggerated prediction. Here are a few mistakes forex traders do often, especially a novice trader trading results are not as expected.

you either predict using stochastic models or anticipate (fundamental bias, guess work, gut feelings, etc.). there's a third option which is to gamble.


predicting doesn't mean having a strong belief that something is going to happen. in fact you can use predictive models without the slightest expectation. In the end it's all about executing a plan.. and see what happens. THAT's speculation guys... which is the act of investiganting and OBSERVING.
