POSITION SIZING is and always will be one of the most dominant factors impacting your performance.

If one does not understand that phrase; please stop any trading immediately and watch the Van Tharpe video; or better, read his books.

No matter whether you trade aggressively, conservatively; manually, automated etc.

PS is decisive.

In an MK context; that implies that you "price" trade setups correctly. A trade is not a trade.

However; this thread is not about such topics; neither about risk management or psychology.

Yes, those topics may be mentioned etc.

However; this thread really concentrates on the market MACRO and MICRO structure.

So the "engine". Why prices go up or down.

There is other stuff out there for more "generic" topics such as "mindset", "emotions", "discipline", "risk management" etc.

in fact nowhere in the internet he is listed as such.
he is an academic; his bio says: "Van Tharp is a psychologist, trading coach and consultant, and entrepreneur "...all but not the single important part: trader.
he is living well, but not living well from money he made from trading, but from selling his various books and courses.
it may or may not improve you as a trader, but it hardly would have a value that other 'market wizards' who are traders.

for a moment i thought he changed filed to gender studies.

PS. his earlier studies were in the gambling field, like blackjack...but studying and selling courses related to financial markets pays better.
i think FractalFreak a while ago would call him "semi-SM" probably; wonder how he became the example.

NO, Van Tharpe is NOT a trader as far as I know.

However; what he is trying to explain regarding "position sizing" is HIGHLY relevant for ANYONE who trades.

One needs to pick the right leverage for a respective setup. That skill may improve also with experience.

Anyone who has invested some serious time in system backtesting also knows that changing the PS rules will completely change that system.

No different for manual trading.

wouldnt be a lot, lot more 'HIGHLY relevant' if 2-3 top useable would be explained in details, and maybe side by side compared for their strengths and weaknesses?
something on that video doesnt give much pointer, but ending on the sales pitch of we have 93 methods on the website, come over there.

i think the approach has value, if nothing else, different from other threads ( and i only refer to the trading strictly on this).
but then there is no real reference points.
like that NZDUSD trade.
never real conclusion on how it went down, cos never showed, really. maybe taken, maybe not, maybe a running loss, maybe not, maybe you have a SL, maybe not, maybe you add to/build up a position, maybe not, etc, etc, etc....
instead of Van Tharp,
why not say something on your position sizing. your risk per a trade? your stop point?
you know, that a trade can as easily put a scart screenshot (when and where taken) as posting a chart. same a closing point. same SL.
that all can be done without disclosing position size, or account equity. the sensitive stuff.
but giving some insight to those DM traders what really is going on...

you ask ppl to protect you, but then they have nothing really as facts to go on.
although it is true to both sides, the naysayers too.
see my posts in scammer thread regarding your NZDUSD trade(s), as an example.
i like facts, but the facts are those missing most.
so why wonder that less adult conversations going on at times?

cos without a real indication it was a trade taken, it is no "hot rate", all is hypothetical, that is borderline to fiction.
i am sure you are smart enough to see that.

sure, yet we still have an exchange. you want my/the readers attention, in exchange to get it, i/the readers want content.
if you keep wanting the attention, you will need to provide some of the content that will keep that attention on you; what you could call a fair exchange, when both side gets what it wants.
and dont get me wrong, but YOU DO need the attention. for a good reason it is a statement, not a question.
thus dont need to be surprised about the other side of that fair trade deal. i think.
